The message continues to be recieved by the Terrasect. Nothing new has been detected other then they are in need of engineering and medical assistance. The attackers have left the area and the signature is difficult to read, because of sub space interferrence. The message reads as follows.
U** Ja*ks*n U**er att**k by an un**ow* ve*sel. Requ**e e**in**ri*g and m**ic*l as**st**ce.

When both the CO and XO left the bridge she hoped that when they returned whatever was eating at them would be served for their dinner and dispatched quickly.
They returned from their discussion at the same time a few more letters helping to clarify the message was received. After they both took their seats she gave a report.
"Ssirss, the mmmesssage has clearred verry slighty. The USSS Jacksson wass attacked, their attackerrss rremain unnknownn, and they rrequirre mmedical and ennginneerrinng asssistannce. Do you wannt mme put it onn audio?"

An ear twitched toward the Turbo lift as he heard it open. Wondering who came to the bridge, he glanced over his shoulder to see the new Security Chief asking Lt GreyHouse what were we getting into now. He thought for a moment on whether if the Chief had reported in to him or not. He shook his head, thinking it didn't matter at this point "We arre invesstigatinng a disstrress call. The sshp was attacked by unnknnownn assssailenntss" He then switched topics "Do you have a prrogrress rreporrt on Ssecurrity and how sseccurre the sship iss"?
As he waited for his response, he looked over to M'Leezz as she reported on Ijoula's call for a status report "Ssirss, the mmmesssage has clearred verry slighty. The USSS Jacksson wass attacked, their attackerrss rremain unnknownn, and they rrequirre mmedical and ennginneerrinng asssistannce. Do you wannt mme to put it onn audio?"
Since he had nothing better to do then just sit there for the moment, he gave a nod "Yess, Lt. Go ahead, Let'ss herre it. Alsso, can you deterrmine if therre arre anny lifessignnss, asss the mmessee sseemmss to be onn an audio lloop..?"

She didn't have a chance to answer the Security officer for the acting Co did that for her. She just whispered to him. "Yellow alert status ship wide. I would suggest getting your men on the move securing all critical areas we might be dealing with a big proble of a phantom in the night." She then went back to her console and monitoring shield strenght as well as weapons status.

Buford's ear rose when the Turbo lift open. He picked the sent of the Security Chief up and heard him asking Lt GreyHouse what were we getting into now. He keep his eyes on the Nav Sensors.
While Grab Foot gave out orders, then the distress call was played, "If their are life signs Sir would you like me to increase speed Sir?
Buford's tail waged as GreyHouse whispered to Zebdiel while he a waited Grab Foots reply

Because of the difference of opinion earlier about wanting to proceed at top speed to the Jackson, Crio would glance at Grabfoot in regards to the helmsman's inquiry about increasing speed, not wanting to risk yanking proverbially on his tail again. If it was Crio's choice to make, he would, but he also decides it would be a good idea to check in on preparations in Sick Bay, and then Engineering.
"Ijoula to Sick Bay. How are your preparations coming, doctor?"
"Ijoula to Engineering, are we ready to provide any kind of assistance that the Jackson may need?"
He also felt it might be a good idea to check in on the readings gathered by the probes they had launched earlier, as well as the communication bridge they had set up.
"Anything on long-range scan? Include any telemetry that our probes might've gathered. We need to know if they still have unwelcome company nearby."
He could not figure out why the communications boost from the probes had failed to give a substantial effect to the clarity of the message from the Jackson...
'What is going on with that ship?!?' he would think to himself, admittedly afraid of what they might find.
Leaning over in his chair toward Grabfoot, he would whisper something, a thought that was nagging at him for the last several minutes.
"I fear we may be too late to help them... They should've been able to send us a more detailed, more personalized message than an automated distress signal...
I'd recommend going to Red Alert depending on what the probe telemetry shows us..."

"Working on it sir. Cmdr Ijoula I'm gonna make a slight adjustment to the communications array. I think it will help."
She began to work on her idea that would enhance what the Ceng already did. Between the boost provided from the probes, the work done by the Ceng, and her own minor adjustment the signal became clearer. And she put it on audio.
"This is the Federation ship the USS Jackson NCC 24431. We were attacked by unknowns. We are disabled and in need of medical and engineering assistance. I'm putting this on an auto loop. Jackson out."
"I sstill cann't get anny rreadinngss on the Jackssonn the arrea they arre in is disstorrtinng all attemmptss at any furrtherr sscannss. Ssir, if they nneed ennginneerinng asssisstannce theirr commmunnicationnss could be very limmited."

He listened to the response from the other feline officer at OPS, and thinks of ways to get a clear reading, or a message to the Jackson.
"What about a passive radiation scan? That might be able to tell us something about how many ships are ahead."
He thought to himself, trying to remember the last time he was in this are of Federation space, and found that he couldn't remember this region as having any kind of spatial or subspace distortion activity..
He would think again, knowing that with distortions it can be hard to get a clear signal through it. He knew that when dealing with Grabfoot, that he's better off not shouting, because of his sensitive hearing. He silently wondered if the same rule applied to the other feline on the bridge, and tested it by not raising his voice above a normal conversational tone.
"Is there any way to compensate and get a signal through to the Jackson, to get any specific details on her current situation?"

He heard Buford ask if there were any life signs, did he want him to increase speed. He pondered a moment, not wanting to go on "If's" "Perhaps. Lt. I would like to make sure there are any life signs before making that decision"
He heard Ijoula call down to Sickbay and Engineering again to see if they were ready on their end. He presumed that when they were ready they would report their readiness
Ijoula then leaned over to whisper something to him, his hearing was so good, he didn't need to lean over for him to whisper but he figured it was an automatic humanoid response
"I fear we may be too late to help them... They should've been able to send us a more detailed, more personalized message than an automated distress signal...
I'd recommend going to Red Alert depending on what the probe telemetry shows us..."
His whiskers twitched then drooped a little as he was thinking around the same thing "I believe you may be right. We could very well be too late to help the crew. Recommendation noted on going to red alert. Let's find out what.."
He paused as M'Leezz informed Ijoula that she is working on his suggestion and doing what she could to clear up the message. A few moments later, she put the complete audio distress message on audio for the bridge crew to hear
She reported after playing the message "I sstill cann't get anny rreadinngss on the Jackssonn the arrea they arre in is disstorrtinng all attemmptss at any furrtherr sscannss. Ssir, if they nneed ennginneerinng asssisstannce theirr commmunnicationnss could be very limmited."
His ears went to quivering again in thought. Unable to get readings because of the distortions and interference. That doesn't sound good. He wanted to get the whole picture. what area of space are we flying into
He heard Ijoula ask about a passive scan then asked if there was a way to compensate and get a signal to the Jackson to gain any specific details
"Perrhapss we can usse the defelectorr dissh to punnch a ssignnal thrrough.." He said still thinking. He Suddenly stood and walked over and stood slightly to the side of M'Leezz to look at her readings "Let'ss forrget the Jackssonn, forr the mmommennt." Although that was hard to do. He could almost hear a protest coming from Ijoula "I would like to know what arrea of sspacce we arre flying innto. Cann you deterrminne what is caussing the interrferrance?" He asked M'Leezz before he would turn a glance to Ijoula "We could be enntrrapinng ourrselvess by foccussing onn the Jacksonn too much. We do not know how lonng ago they have beenn attacked and they could have drifted into an area of space where we cannot get out of"

Knowing this would likely surprise Grabfoot, he would actually nod in agreement after a couple of seconds of deep thought.
"Agreed... The last time I was out this way, there was no subspace or spatial distortion activity.
Helmsman, can you call up a star chart of this area and put it up on the main viewer? I have a bad feeling..."
He did not recognize the voice on the com from the Jackson, so he would look up the latest records to see who was the current commanding officer, as a precaution.
He would then stand and would approach the front of the bridge, near the viewscreen and the helm and operations stations.
"Be ready to bring us about in a hurry, just in case."

Buford's paws fly across his station as he brings up the Star Chart of the area "Chart Sir" he was ready to change course on a moments notice "Give the word and were out of here"

He would take a good hard look at the chart, approaching closer to the screen.
His right hand would form a loose fist around his chin, looking carefully, frowning slightly as he looked at the chart.
"This isn't right..." he thought to himself.

Hearing the helm officer ask if something was wrong, he would turn toward him, a bit unsure.
"Maybe... Show our position and the last known location of the Jackson..."
He would then turn to the feline at Operations.
"Lieutenant, is there any information from recent reports about any subspace or spatial distortion activity in this area within the last six months? If so, please superimpose it on the current viewer image."
His gaze would momentarily lock with Grabfoot's, showing a bit of unease and worry for the safety of the ship and crew. It would also show that he was reasonably sure this region was free of distortion activity the last time he was here.

He was surprised that Ijoula had agreed with him but he didn't let it show. He told him that the last time he was out here, there were no subspace or spatial distortions then asked Buford to bring up a star chart of the area
Buford brought up the star chart and he looked at it with interest. He heard Ijoula tell him that he should prepare to bring us around at any moment. Shouldn't have that been his line?
Buford acknowledged his order. Ijoula continued to study the chart then comment that something wasn't right
He was about to inquire what he felt was wrong but Buford had asked instead. His ears tilted forward to express his curiosity, Ijoula asking him to Show our position and the last known location of the Jackson..."
He turned to M'Leezz asking "Lieutenant, is there any information from recent reports about any subspace or spatial distortion activity in this area within the last six months? If so, please superimpose it on the current viewer image."
Ijoula turned and gave him a look and he could see the unease and concern for the safety of the crew, which matched his concern as well. As we were still at warp 6 and getting closer to the unknown danger, he thought it would be best to stop and try to get to the bottom of the mystery before we fall into the trap. He turned to Buford "Lt. Comme to ann all sstop. I wannt to ssolvve thiss beforre we accidenntally enter one of thosse annommoliess and we arrenn't able to get out"
