He would look at Grabfoot with a degree of the command authority he had formerly had, ready to almost dispute the decision to not proceed at top speed.
As he remembers his current position and who is currently in command, that look softens a bit, but his eyes said what was on his mind, almost as if it was said aloud, a skill he had picked up on and gained when serving with Harsting.
"Sir, with all due respect, if they already have casualties, then wouldn't time be of the essence?[/i]]"
He maintains eye contact with Grabfoot, admittedly curious as to his thinking on that matter. He also wondered if that factor had even come into consideration, but would not give voice to that unless it became necessary.[/color]

He could almost see the command authority entering Ijoula's eyes and the doubt he could smell from him, like he didn't agree with his decision. He narrowed his eyes a little, daring him to counter his orders right there on the bridge
He saw the look soften a bit as he may have remembered just where he was and who had command. He knew he was not Harsting but he did pick up some tips from him, from watching what he done and now it was his turn to show what he could do
"Sir, with all due respect, if they already have casualties, then wouldn't time be of the essence?"
"I do not believe it would, Commander. The danger has passed and if they were on the verge of dying or they were on the verge of a warp core breach then I believe that they would have included that in their message when we responded. Who ever attacked them could be still in the area just waiting and if we go in their at full speed, without checking the area first, we could be walking right into a trap.
If you have any better ideas, I would be welcome to hear them, Commander" Just don't stand there and argue with me in the middle of the bridge. He thought about adding that but he chose not too

Crio would nod slowly, as he tried to suck in his feelings on the matter, and as he realized just how close he was to direct insubordination.
'Great job Crio.... No more than an hour after coming to the bridge, and you're already risking being relieved of duty...' he would think to himself.
Given the situation at hand, his mind would start to go to work on trying to find a viable solution to the sensor interference., when an idea hits him.
"Understood.. With all this interference to the long-range sensors, perhaps we can give them some help... say a couple of Class-5 probes. We can adjust them to also serve as a com relay on the chance they are trying to send another message, but the same interference that is creating issues with a clear scan might be affecting their ability to send long-range communications."
He silently prayed that this idea would not present itself as a challenge to authority. He had gotten used to being able to speak freely around Harsting, although that was more often than not limited to the confines of the ready room.
Crio also finally realized that Grabfoot had no way of knowing about the "sixth sense" of sorts that Harsting had more than once accused Ijoula of having.
Realizing that he had yet to take a seat, he finally does, in the position designated for the XO.

As soon as he said "If you have any better ideas", he mentally cuffed himself. The thought did cross his mind that Ijoula was trying to question his authority and possibly his right to be in command. That was not the case, he hoped, he was trying to offer suggestions and trying to understand what he was thinking
He amended his last statement "If you have any suggestions, I would be welcome to hear them" he said then noticed Ijoula looked thoughtful
His ears quivered in thought as he had not thought about using probes as a communications bridge. it could boost signals on both ends. He may not have the "sixth sense" that Ijoula or Harsting has but he did have his own senses that he relied on "I'm positive the probes would be a beneficial boost to the communications signal that we both need"
He turned back to the Tactical Officer, as Ijoula went to sit down in his chair, normally his when Harsting is on the Bridge "Modify two class five probes so they can act as a booster. When calibrated, fire them ahead of us"
He then turned to M'Leezz at Ops "When you receive confirmation of the boost, attempt to contact The Jackson to let them know our progress and ask for a progress report on their end"

Crio smiled a bit to himself, at finding a solution that would help, and thinks of an extra thought, in case the Jackson's main com system was down.
"It might be prudent to make the booster sensitive enough to pick up com badge signals as well, on the off-chance their com array is down.
If that turns out to be the case, then it's likely that they may have been boarded, and that could explain the somewhat generalized information that we got from their distress beacon."
He did think back to the remark about 'if you have any better ideas...' and believes that was meant as an insult to him and his approach to the current situation. That was a matter that he would rather deal with privately, instead of doing so on the bridge during a crisis situation.
He nods toward the operations officer.
"When they're ready to launch, route our long-range sensor telemetry reception through the probes. As a precaution, compare the location of the distress call with the current position of the Jackson. Also, see if you can get a positive identification on those ships near their position."

Ijoula seemed pleased that he found a viable suggestion that did not irritate him. He noticed he was feeling irritated a lot as of late. Perhaps it was the pressure of command. He didn't know but he needed to relax some before he cuffed someone he shouldn't
He focused on Ijoula as he made another suggestion "It might be prudent to make the booster sensitive enough to pick up com badge signals as well, on the off-chance their com array is down."[/i]
He hadn't thought about that. He didn't think the signal could be refined that far, but apparently it could
If that turns out to be the case, then it's likely that they may have been boarded, and that could explain the somewhat generalized information that we got from their distress beacon."
"There communications is not down. If that would be the case, then they would not have been able to respond to our response to their distress call, nor would being boarded, If they were, I would presume they would not be able to respond at all or those boarders on board would know of our assistance"
He listened as He toward M'Leezz, adding "When they're ready to launch, route our long-range sensor telemetry reception through the probes. As a precaution, compare the location of the distress call with the current position of the Jackson. Also, see if you can get a positive identification on those ships near their position." [/i]
If they're experience engineering problems, then I doubt they would be going anywhere" He observed, then as an after-thought, he added "Unless they're drifting"

She heard what they said, sensing a power issue or perhaps bad blood. She felt uncomfortable and her tail started to twitch just the tip of it.
"Aye sssir. Engineerrring got back to mmme and they have boosssted our commmunications arrray. Attemmmpting to rrretrieve morrre of the messsage from the Jackssson."
"Once the probesss arrre rrready I will ennnhannnce the sssignnnalsss, annnd get a fix while checkinnng the classs and registry number of the vessel. In addition, I'm checking to finnnd annny additionnnal innformmmation I cannn finnnd."

Keeping focused and actually being focused was another thing. She was quickly prepareing the class 5 probes amonst the banter that seamed to be exchanged between the two officers in charge of the bridge. She knew that the Jackson was their priority not their personal feelings. Her training was all that would show as she announced loud enough to hear but with the authority of her post as tactical officer on the bridge.
"Launching modtified class 5 probes should I raise sheilds sir with unidentifyed targets in the area?"
She launched the probes and waited for a respons to her question. She, in her mind, was not over steping her boundaries by asking that. The ships were a concern oviously to the one in command so for her to ask it was her job. If the ships were going to play chicken with them needed to be well prepared.

"I would, as a precaution."
He would glance at Grabfoot, then back at the tactical officer, with a slight nod.

He turned toward M'Leezz, as she started to give her report, he noted that the tip of her tail was twitching slightly, presumable from the tension between him and Ijoula. He sarted to relax, and calm himself, and focus on the task at him, and her report
She reported that Engineering gave her a boost to the comminications array, so she coud hopefully retrieve more of the Jackson's message. She added "Once the probesss arrre rrready I will ennnhannnce the sssignnnalsss, annnd get a fix while checkinnng the classs and registry number of the vessel. In addition, I'm checking to finnnd annny additionnnal innformmmation I cannn finnnd."
He gave a nod in her direction "Verry good, Lt. Pleasse keep mmee apprraissed"
Turning toward the Tactical officer as she asked would it be best to raise shields since we're coming into a possible combat situation, he heard Ijoula say he would as a precaution. He gave a nod to Ijoula then to GreyHouse "Yess, I would asss well. Alsso go to yellow allerrt"

"Aye, sir."
She worked on the console and soon enough the sheilds where raised and the weapons armed on stand-by. The ship went from condition green to condition yellow.
"Yellow aleart sounded sir sheilds up weapons stand-by."

He would again look at Grabfoot, contemplating his own choices, and knows there is one he must make to settle what is starting to feel like a potential problem.
"Sir... When there's a free minute or two, may I have a word... In private..?" he would ask and then nod slightly toward the ready room.
He found it very difficult to ignore the apparent tension that had come up on the bridge, that was directed between him and Grabfoot, and wanted to get any issue that might exist settled before it became worse.

He gave a nod at the Tactical officer as she told him that Yellow alert has been initiated, shields were raised and weapon's on standby "Verry good, Lt." He stated simply
A moment later, he felt a pair of eyes on him, like someone was watching him. His hunter's instinct always gave him that feeling and sometimes he hated it, He wasn't in the jungle forests of Eeiauo, he was on the bridge of the Terrasect. He turned his eyes on Ijoula, finding out it was him that was studying him. Figures.
He then spoke up, asking if there was a free moment, could he speak to him.. in private, with a slight nod toward the Captain's ready room
He knew that he was speaking about the apparent tension between him and Ijoula. He knew the others felt it, especially M'Leezz if the slight twitch in her tail was any indication
He turned to Buford and asked for an update on the ETA for the Jackson. The Canine Officer told him the ETA was now 25 minutes. He gave a nod of thanks then turned back to Ijoula "Alright, Commander. Seems we have a couple minutes to discuss things" He turned and walked toward and then into the Captain's Ready Room, expecting him to follow

Crio got up and was right behind him heading into the ready room. When they had both entered and the doors closed, he found it hard to just sit down in a relaxed manner.
He had found that there was a huge measure of tension between him and Grabfoot, and it didn't require a Betazoid or other telepathic species to determine that, and he knew deep down that if it could be seen that clearly, then there would be serious problems.
"Sir, it seems there is a big problem, between us... Truthfully, I'm not sure what it is, but I'd be sorely negligent in my responsibilities to this ship and her crew if I didn't try to sort it out with the person who is connected with that tension...
I am positive that the bridge crew can already feel it as if it were a heavy fog that just rolled in."
He realized that a part of the command side of him had just made itself manifest, but he also knew he had to level with Grabfoot on his own feelings, and given what had happened, that was the best way he knew how.

He could feel Ijoula behind him as he stepped into the ready room, he didn't have to turn around to know he was there. He did not go around the desk and sit but he remained standing as it seemed to him that Ijoula has done
Even in the small ready room, the tension between them was thick, perhaps it was because of him and his jumpy nerves. He knew he needed to relax more but sometimes that was hard to do
"Sir, it seems there is a big problem, between us... Truthfully, I'm not sure what it is, but I'd be sorely negligent in my responsibilities to this ship and her crew if I didn't try to sort it out with the person who is connected with that tension...

He looked at Ijoula and nodded "I too believe that the bridge crew can feel the tension between us but I don't believe it necessarily has to do with us. I know you remember my mistake in firing the weapons that one time when the Captain had not ordered it and you almost threw me into the brig for that action. I have gotten over that and have put it behind me
I am sure that you know that the rigors of command are difficult at times and it is hard for me to relax and express my feelings. If I am lashing out at you , then I do need to apologize. I am positive that we can work together as a team as we did before"
He paused to hear his response
