He would listen carefully to what Grabfoot had to say and he nodded some.
"Yes, I can remember that situation as well... and to be honest, I'm glad I didn't follow through on that threat. I'd like to feel like I have likewise put it behind me. I will admit, though that it reinforced to me that even when one is upset with another, it's best to get the whole story before making a summary judgement and letting one's feelings guide that judgement."
He would listen more about his viewpoint on command.
"I do understand the challenges that come with command.. It's not easy, I'll freely admit that. If I may speak freely on this, one who is in command must learn to find a balance between one's duties and relaxation. Otherwise, such a person can easily get 'burned out' as humans would say.
If you think it would help, I did bring my calisthenics holodeck program back with me. I find that it helps me unwind and vent frustrations and anger in a way that helps me to let it go. Perhaps it might help you."
He thought for a minute about another subject on his mind, finally having the courage to bring it up to Grabfoot.
"I do know that Jim had his reasons for choosing you as his exec, especially when I had to take an emergency leave. Granted, I may not know what those reasons are, but I know he had wisdom behind that decision.
Having been an XO to Jim, I know he found great value in my counsel, and also counted on my ability to size up a situation and to make sure it would be taken care of. He also accused me of having a 'sixth sense,' an almost uncanny and often unnerving talent for knowing what can happen, and often, it's proven itself true."
He sighs at a thought that helped greatly spark the smoke on the bridge, knowing he'd have to address that as well.
"I could tell you tried to dare me to step across the line of insubordination earlier, when I was briefed on the distress call. To be honest, if I was on a ship that sent a distress call, I'd be hoping for help to be coming as fast as possible.
To be honest, I felt that your approach was more 'relaxed' to that call. I do understand your reasoning, but at the same time, I do care about saving lives, especially those of our comrades. I will admit I almost stepped over that line..."
He knows he also must reassure him if possible.
"I know we may have disagreements.. Heaven knows I had plenty with Jim... I know it may sometimes feel like my approach to a situation is stepping on your paws or tail... I do not mean for it to feel that way. But you should also know that I will not just blindly follow orders, like some sort of automaton, especially when lives are on the line. If it means a potential argument between us later, then we can deal with it then."
He took in his last sentiment.
"I would like to see that solid working relationship be able to come back as well. I don't like feeling at odds with anyone I'm serving with, especially my commanding officer."

He would nod in agreement with his assessment and his opinion before continuing to listen to his comments
"I do understand the challenges that come with command.. It's not easy, I'll freely admit that. If I may speak freely on this, one who is in command must learn to find a balance between one's duties and relaxation. Otherwise, such a person can easily get 'burned out' as humans would say.
There is a balance in everything" he commented "One needs to have his eyes and ears open to be able to find that balance" He had been feeling a bit worried as of late. He had succeeded in his Star Fleet Career but his social life was severely lacking. People have told him not to worry about it, that things will come naturally and happen on their own. Perhaps they're right
If you think it would help, I did bring my calisthenics holodeck program back with me. I find that it helps me unwind and vent frustrations and anger in a way that helps me to let it go. Perhaps it might help you."
Calisthenics? He looked at the Commander a moment before spiraling his tail in humor "I thank you for the offer to use your exercise program but I have a calisthenics program of my own on the holodeck, Although I have not had much time to use it lately. The last time I used it, the Doctor was not very pleased with me. I had my shoulder bitten into by a rather large predator" He looked rather amused, remember the shocked look the doctor had on her face when she came to the holodeck
"I do know that Jim had his reasons for choosing you as his exec, especially when I had to take an emergency leave. Granted, I may not know what those reasons are, but I know he had wisdom behind that decision." He gave a nod, remembering when Ijoula had to take an emergency LOA. Course, Jim had gone through a couple XO's in the time that he had chosen him. Through a process of elimination, either through retirement or advancement
His ears perked in interest when he mentioned his "sixth sense" ability "Some people have that ability so they can guess what may happen and propose an alternate course of action. I have often watched you as you made suggestions to Captain Harsting. Granted, I thought at the time they made no sense but it was the best course of action. For that, that is why I asked you to be my First Officer. If you "see" something that may happen and I don't see it right off, I want you to warn me"
"I could tell you tried to dare me to step across the line of insubordination earlier, when I was briefed on the distress call.
He listened t his words carefully, his ears laying back a moment before they would quiver in thought "Truthfully, I did dare you to see if you would. I know you wanted to get there at best possible speed cause of the injuries and the possible damage to the ship. We were able to determine the Jackson was in no immediate danger, from a warp core breach or from anyone dying so I did not thing it would be prudent to go rushing in without ourselves being prepared. I wanted a little time so that Sickbay and Engineering to prepare and decide what they wanted to bring over so that a thorough job can be done and not a rushed one. I care about saving lives myself, Mr. Ijoula, that why I wished to be prepared as much as I can be"
"I know we may have disagreements..
His ears tilted forward. His paws? He wasn't certain as to what he meant for a moment then realized that he meant hands. He then nodded "I do know that, Commander, which is another reason I asked you to be the Acting First Officer. If I make a mistake, which I know I am capable of making them, I would like you to bring it to my attention. If you need to pull my tail, either verbally or physically, then so be it. If the pull is justifiable, then I will listen. If not, my reaction won't be as favorable"
"I would like to see that solid working relationship be able to come back as well. I don't like feeling at odds with anyone I'm serving with, especially my commanding officer."
He nods "Truth be known, neither do I. It may seem like I enjoy a good fight, but I try to avoid fighting if I can"

There is a balance in everything" he commented "One needs to have his eyes and ears open to be able to find that balance"
Crio would nod at that, finding something similar to the writings of the human Tsun Tsu with that statement.
"Jim used to remind me of the need to relax, especially when I didn't necessarily want to. Maybe taking part in an activity that you like might go a long way to help you relax? I personally feel that everyone needs a break periodically... some more than others."
Crio watched Grabfoot carefully and noticed his tail move to spiral itself. He wasn't sure if that was the feline's idea version of laughing or not. He figured he'd only find out by the tenor of his verbal response.
"I thank you for the offer to use your exercise program but I have a calisthenics program of my own on the holodeck, Although I have not had much time to use it lately. The last time I used it, the Doctor was not very pleased with me. I had my shoulder bitten into by a rather large predator"" He looked rather amused, remember the shocked look the doctor had on her face when she came to the holodeck
His eyes would widen a bit at that, with surprise.
"Alright... What about a less-dangerous activity, like perhaps running, or some time on the phaser range?"
He would watch as Grabfoot's ears perked in interest when mention was made of his "sixth sense" ability, wondering deep down what his reaction would be.
"Some people have that ability so they can guess what may happen and propose an alternate course of action. I have often watched you as you made suggestions to Captain Harsting. Granted, I thought at the time they made no sense but it was the best course of action. For that, that is why I asked you to be my First Officer. If you "see" something that may happen and I don't see it right off, I want you to warn me"
"Duly noted. It doesn't always come on, though, and it's rather strange.. I don't think it's true ESP as humans call it, but it's close. And for the record, I'm not the only Ijoula to be accused of that ability, either. As for giving the warning, I'll try to be respectful about it, but I may not be able to always guarantee a respectful attitude on my part. It could require an instant decision in a split-second."
Crio would listen as Grabfoot commented on the 'dare' on the bridge.
"Truthfully, I did dare you to see if you would. Ijoula, that why I wished to be prepared as much as I can be"
"Respectfully, I wish I had been privy to that information as well.. It might've kept me from making a complete idiot out of myself, and setting off that tension bomb on the bridge...
Crio watched as Grabfoot's ears tilted forward with what he could only guess was a puzzled reaction to the comment about his paws, although he had no way of being certain. He meant to say 'toes' but wasn't sure what would be that equivilent with his kind. He watched his facial expression to help him in his guess.
"I do know that, Commander, which is another reason I asked you to be the Acting First Officer. If I make a mistake, which I know I am capable of making them, I would like you to bring it to my attention. If you need to pull my tail, either verbally or physically, then so be it. If the pull is justifiable, then I will listen. If not, my reaction won't be as favorable"
He nods "Truth be known, neither do I. It may seem like I enjoy a good fight, but I try to avoid fighting if I can"
Greatly relieved that the sentiment was shared, a soft, happy sigh came from him, and a noticeable sense of relief came over him.
"I may give the appearance of at times wanting to fight, but honestly, I have found that one accomplishes very little good by fighting. Often, a great deal of damage is caused, bodily, morally, and otherwise.. And to be perfectly truthful, I really am not sure I'd want to get into a physical fight with you, because I can already tell I'd be spending time in Sick Bay."
In an intended playful gesture that he used to do when previously serving with Harsting, he'd give Grabfoot a light, playful hit to the upper arm.
"We probably should make sure the bridge crew sees that things have smoothed over between us, and that we're not still trying to blast holes in each other.
As soon as I can get quarters set up and get myself unpacked, I'd like to see about starting up a poker night again, if that might interest you."
He would wait for a minute to see what his response to that idea would be.

As he flew the ship he could sense the tension and some blood between them, looking strait a head "ETA to Jackson 25 minutes", he said he could sense some emotions coming from M'Leezz as well
Soon the XO asked to speak with Grab Foot in private when they entered the Ready Room Buford said "That thar tension was thicker than peanut butter" his tail wags

Ijoula gave a nod when he hold him that everything had a balance, just need to keep your eyes and ears open to find that balance
"Jim used to remind me of the need to relax, especially when I didn't necessarily want to. Maybe taking part in an activity that you like might go a long way to help you relax? I personally feel that everyone needs a break periodically... some more than others."
He nodded, knowing the feeling about not wanting to relax, especially if something happens, you need to be ready for anything "Some more, some less. Depends on the person. I tend to be one of the less but I know that I must rest sooner or later. As far as finding activities I like, that is difficult to do when I am on duty most of the time" He pondered a moment, since he met M'Leezz, she has been fun to be with. Perhaps he can set up times to be with her more, if she wanted
He blinked, noticing that as his tail moved, Ijoula would glance down to it. His whiskers twitched in amusement, seemed everyone was fascinated by his tail
Ijoula's eyes widened when he told him the last time he was in the holodeck. Grant had pulled his tail, figuratively speaking and he was rather angered. Grant suggested the use of the Holodeck to calm himself, then offered to spar with him. He told Grant that if his current state, he would kill him, then stalked off and went to the holodeck and got into a battle with 3 Slashbacks, with the safeties off. The result landed him an injury to his shoulder which Doctor MacAuley promptly cuffed him, verbally, for his recklessness
"Alright... What about a less-dangerous activity, like perhaps running, or some time on the phaser range?" He heard Ijoula say and he gave that thought, his ears quivering "The phaser range sounds like a fun activity, especially with live targets" he looked amused again "As for running, there is no one able to keep up with me" He pondered that then amended "Perhaps one person would"
He then listened as he commented on his opinion about the "sixth sense"issue. Perhaps he spoke wrong again, he decided to rephrase his comment "I feel that everyone has an intuition or something that would occur to them that something that is going to happen and would take necessary steps to prevent it from happening. With some people it happens more then other people. Should you get that sense and feel it is important to bring up, then I would be welcome to hear it"
Listening to him as he spoke of how he came to his decision on the Jackson, Ijoula would comment "Respectfully, I wish I had been privy to that information as well.. It might've kept me from making a complete idiot out of myself, and setting off that tension bomb on the bridge...
His tail spiraled again on that, more tighter then before "You had just came to the bridge when the information and the distress call came in so there was no time to brief you before the ship and it's officers, jumped into action. With you coming to the bridge and started issuing orders, after reporting in to me, that I have already given, I think you should have asked me first what may have been happening and looked around so you would know that people were doing what I had ordered, put me on edge making me think that Star Fleet Command had yanked my tail out of the Captain's chair before I even had a chance to sit down. It is no wonder we got off on the wrong foot, as humans say"
Crio glanced up to his ears when they bent forward, as he had called his hands 'paws' "I do have hands like you humanoids have, except I do not have a.. what do you call it.. A thum"
He heard Ijoula give a relieved sigh when he told him that he didn't like to fight, only fought when necessary. He got the impression that Ijoula thought, with his looks and stature, he was a natural born fighter. "Eeiauons usually like to live in peace, and hunt, mostly for their food. We have become more civilized then our Sivaoan counterparts. Sivaoans still live in tents and camps. Eeiauoans have built cities and are more technologically advanced, but some Eeiauoans still observe the tradition ways" like him
"I may give the appearance of at times wanting to fight, but honestly, I have found that one accomplishes very little good by fighting. Often, a great deal of damage is caused, bodily, morally, and otherwise.. And to be perfectly truthful, I really am not sure I'd want to get into a physical fight with you, because I can already tell I'd be spending time in Sick Bay."
He blinked when Ijoula had given him a playful punch on the arm. He had seen humans use the gesture as a sign that were lightly pulling one's tail, or joking around, with friends "This is true. I don't think the Doctor would appreciate me putting one of the best Commander's in the fleet in her sickbay for injuries that I incur on him" He'd look amused when he said that "Some people fight for different reasons, whether you fight for what you believe in or fighting for your very survival"
"We probably should make sure the bridge crew sees that things have smoothed over between us, and that we're not still trying to blast holes in each other."
"That seems to be a good idea. The bridge crew does not need to see their CO's pulling each other's tail. It wouldn't be good for morale"
As soon as I can get quarters set up and get myself unpacked, I'd like to see about starting up a poker night again, if that might interest you."
"As for poker night, I would be interested in attending. I believe I know of a couple officers that would also be interested and I can ask around when I am not on duty"

"The phaser range sounds like a fun activity, especially with live targets""As for running, there is no one able to keep up with me" "Perhaps one person would"
"Respectfully, there's always the holodeck, and you can program an appropriate 'running mate' to keep you company if you can't find someone among the crew."
He would notice briefly that Grabfoot's tail spiraled again on that, more tighter then before.
"This is true. I don't think the Doctor would appreciate me putting one of the best Commander's in the fleet in her sickbay for injuries that I incur on him"
Upon hearing that, Crio's expression changed to one tinged with surprise, somewhat similar to when one would present him with something that was good, but a total surprise. Proof of that would include some eye-widening and raised eyebrows.
On such short notice, he could not think of anybody who had ever made a comment like that to him before, as far as his value to a starship and its crew.
However, Jim had made a comment somewhat similar, as far as being such a good friend and confidant to him.
"Some people fight for different reasons, whether you fight for what you believe in or fighting for your very survival"
After giving his views on fighting with each other, he respectfully listened to what Grabfoot felt on the matter.
"I had forgotten about fighting for one's survival. That does count as a valid reason for fighting. Believe me, I know that very well.."
His comment about fighting came from many encounters with the Borg over Ijoula's entire existence, and one occasion where one host was partially assimilated in one of the encounters, which has only fueled his intense hatred toward them -- a hatred that only manifested itself when fighting the Borg.
Hearing Grabfoot's remarks about morale and seeing their commanding officers fighting served to emphasize more clearly his feelings about wanting to have their issue settled, which thankfully he believed was finally taken care of, and that the hatchet was buried.
"As for poker night, I would be interested in attending. I believe I know of a couple officers that would also be interested and I can ask around when I am not on duty"
Remembering that he and Harsting had to help educate Grabfoot on how to play poker, he would glance at him with a look that said, "Are you sure you remember how to play the game?"
"You had just came to the bridge when the information and the distress call came in so there was no time to brief you before the ship and it's officers, jumped into action.
"I'll admit that sometimes I react before fully thinking on a good way to approach it. I guess that was a classic example of it at its worst. Sometimes it's very easy for me to put myself into a command role, sometimes stepping on another's toes. I'll be honest that it may happen, perhaps more often than either of us would like.. Having been thrust into the 'big chair' with no real advance warning on a long-term basis, it's very easy for me to revert to that attitude."
He felt it would be necessary to reveal another reason, hoping that it would help serve to explain why he may jump into a command role without thinking.
"You may be wondering why I had to take an emergency leave... It was because my baby sister, Bri, was kidnapped while heading home for shore leave. You may remember that she had been our chief medical officer during the voyage to Ktarnian space.
I was not about to sit on my hands and let anyone else handle that matter. Jim had heard about it, but I had asked that he keep it confidential... He granted my leave, considering my determination to find her was easily noticeable. Afterward, I led a covert search team to find her, which thank the Guardians, I found her alive, and was able to rescue her. In that time, I became very independent of higher authority, because I would not allow myself to be stopped from finding her. As a result, I believe that Starfleet Command felt justified in stripping me of captain's privileges.
With that said, I'd like to think that with some time, I might be able to get settled down and back into a normal routine.. I do know that the transition will be difficult for me in the interim.
I hope knowing that will help you to understand my reactions earlier."

He noted that he glanced at his tail again as it spiraled. Every time it moved, he seemed to watch his tail. He actually thought that was a good thing, someone paying attention to his body language. Between his wail and whiskers, they would pretty much tell people how he felt, if they were willing to listen
"Respectfully, there's always the holodeck, and you can program an appropriate 'running mate' to keep you company if you can't find someone among the crew."
He nodded at that, not having thought of that option. He had a point, but he rather run with a live person that with a computer generated image
He noted the somewhat complete surprised reaction coming over him when he commented about putting one of the best commanders in the fleet in sickbay. Perhaps Ijoula thought that Grab Foot didn't think too highly of him. He was wrong. He respected him and saw his capabilities time and time again when he was in a position of command
It was he, Grab Foot, that was unsure of his Command abilities but then when push came to shove, he got things done just as Ijoula does
He heard Ijoula's view on fighting after he made the comment that people fight for different reasons "I had forgotten about fighting for one's survival. That does count as a valid reason for fighting. Believe me, I know that very well.."
He sensed there was something that happened to Ijoula that had him fighting for his life. Everyone does at some point in there life. Fighting for survival is an everyday occurrence, on Eeiauo. Granted. they maybe more technologically advanced but there were still the predators that hunted the forests and jungle regions and still they had kept some of the old tradition of Sivao, like "Walking".
Ijoula glanced at him, when he mentioned that he would be interested in having poker night, as if asking if he still knew how to play. His whiskers twitched in humor. Once something is learned, it would be hard to forget
Having been thrust into the 'big chair' with no real advance warning on a long-term basis, it's very easy for me to revert to that attitude." He gave a nod of understanding, especially when he said that he reacts without thinking sometimes. "Understood. I have done that myself quite a few times"
He felt it would be necessary to reveal another reason, hoping that it would help serve to explain why he may jump into a command role without thinking.
"You may be wondering why I had to take an emergency leave..." Not really, he thought. It was his business but he knew he was about to tell him "It was because my baby sister, Bri, was kidnapped while heading home for shore leave." His ears flicked back in surprise, "You may remember that she had been our chief medical officer during the voyage to Ktarnian space." He nodded, indeed remembering that venture
As a result, I believe that Star fleet Command felt justified in stripping me of captain's privileges.
With that said, I'd like to think that with some time, I might be able to get settled down and back into a normal routine.. I do know that the transition will be difficult for me in the interim.
I hope knowing that will help you to understand my reactions earlier."
His ears were quivering again in though as he absorbed this bit of news "I do not blame you for wanting to go rescue your sister. I would have too if I had been in the same situation. I am pleased that you found her alive and were able to rescue her" His whiskers twitched when he said when he returned, Star Fleet Command had stripped him of his rank and reinstated him with a reduced rank. He nodded when he told him that with the tale he just told, and with some time, he'll be able to settled down and get back into a normal routine. "Transition sometimes is difficult. One must adapt to his surrounding or risk getting lost along the way"

Crio watched Grabfoot's body language again carefully as he listened to his response, noting that his ears flicked back and then quivered, unsure if that was because of something very unexpected, or what...
"I do not blame you for wanting to go rescue your sister. I would have too if I had been in the same situation. I am pleased that you found her alive and were able to rescue her"
"You have no idea how relieved I was to find her as well... However, should we ever encounter those who held her captive, it will be nearly impossible for me not to revert to my attitude and action style when searching for her... As for that, all I can say is it'd be as strong or stronger than my reaction to finding a Borg ship."
"Transition sometimes is difficult. One must adapt to his surrounding or risk getting lost along the way"
He would nod at that, still admittedly angry over the decision against him, feeling it was unjust. Though remembering that matter angered him greatly, he knew that at the moment, he couldn't do anything to change it without creating more problems. He decided it was best not to dwell on it, for fear it may greatly interfere with his duties.
He would think for a minute, realizing the bridge crew may think there was still a major issue between them for taking so long.
"Let's make sure that the bridge is still in one piece.." he would say as his tone shifted to a definite joking demeanor, an attitude that might be remembered from when he would be off-duty.
Afterward, he would chuckle a bit and head back to the bridge, grateful to have gotten his feelings out, before they exploded in front of everyone on the bridge.
"What's our status?" he would ask, with the joking side of him put away for now, knowing the seriousness of the situation they were heading into.
"Any new information on the Jackson?"

Grab Foot heard his closing remarks about how relieved he was to find his sister alive and he nodded. He would be too if he was in the same situation
He nodding in agreement when he told him his views on transition, then spoke about getting back to the bridge to see if it was in one peice still
He nodded with a Spiral to his tail and then he followed him out. He was about to ask for a progress report to see if they gotten any new information when he heard Ijoula call for it before he got the chance. He gave Ijoula a glance then turned to walk over and sit in the Command chair, tail wrapping around his waist, waiting to hear any new reports.
It was going to take some getting used to to have a first officer as attentive as Commander Ijoula

Buford could sense Grab Foot still need time to get use to Ijoula but he knew Grab Foot would, he never took is eyes of the Nav screen

Location> Quarters

Location> Bridge
Stepping off the Turbo Lift and onto the Bridge he walks over to the Tactical Console and glances at her and smiles. "So what are we getting ourselves into now?"
