Acting CO log...... Star date 62736.65
She entered her office and looked at the desk piled with padds of the latest reports. There were so many details to attend to, when getting a ship ready for her maiden launch.
She noticed the padd from the CMO and read it. She immediately signed off on it so the supplies would arrive in ample time before they left.
Everything was going along smoothly. Now for the investigation. It was in the hands of the Elements and if she were worthy it would go well. She knew she was no at fault. Enough Eviess, time will tell. Now get on with the business at hand. There is a ship to have ready.

The investigation has ended and I have been vindicated. No wrong doing could be found. While I knew this to be true, still I had grave concerns. It is one thing to face your own, and another to face those learning as you to meet, and accept each other as friends.
But not only am I vindicated I am now promoted to captain. And the New York has been given to me to command. The Federation has shown its belief and trust in me and I shall not let them down.
Fleet Admiral Harsting informed me that in communication with my superiors, I am promoted to the rank of Riov (captain) in the Rihannsu galae (Romulan Naval Fleet). I have been, not only honored by the Federation but by my own as well. It is a day, I shall not forget quickly.
Ah one more thing of importance. I shared with my crew the ceremony of such an important event. Being given the command of the New York. I will now repeat it as taken form the log.
Eviess S Radaik: ::she reaches for her dagger and withdraws it.:: Justin Kinsely: [CENG] ::He looked over at Captain Radaik.:: Candela Greene: [OPS]::Her hands tremble a bit again:: Eviess S Radaik: Crew of the New York ENS Tyler Baccus: ASec>::Turns to face the Captain:: Eviess S Radaik: Today we celebrate your valor and honor. You have all served loyally and well, Ffagrl04: CMO::makes a mental note to herself to check how Candela was doing after the briefing:: LeeSingleton4077: ::faces the capt:: Eviess S Radaik: and the Elements reward those who are worthy. This blade takes the blood of Eviess S Radaik: traitors, but it gives glory to you who love your ship and your Empire." Candela Greene: [OPS]::Tries to concentrate on the Captain, but feels herself losing control, her right hand now very noticebly trembling:: Eviess S Radaik: ::she holds the dagger up and smybolically lowers it when traitor is said and then raises it at the end:: Eviess S Radaik: Of course we would now say here in this place "love the Federation" LeeSingleton4077: :::flinches at the motion of the Romulan gesture:: Lt Heath MaIc: CSEC>"Love the Federation." Eviess S Radaik: ::returns her dagger and smiles at the crew::
At this point all crew members said "Love the Federation". It is good to share this, and to see them as we do reveal in the glory of ones governing political body.
Enough now, it is time to ensure the New York is ready for her launch.

It has been a very busy time. The New York has now entered the final stages before its time for her to launch. I have been informed of what is called a "shake down cruise". It is when a ship leaves for the first time and certain test are preformed to ensure she is space worthy. We have a similar practice, let us hope nothing is discovered to force our return.
This crew, and myself needs to return to space. We have been here too long.

We are now only hours away from launch. So many things still need to be attended to. I could not help but laugh today. As I retired last evening I mentally checked the list that needed to be done today, the I awake to find the list is just about completed but new things have been added. It will be this way until launch time.
In checking out the myriad of details I see the crew is slowly filtering in. This is a good sign. I truly look forward to our launch, I need the open, quiet space that only a launch can bring. My eneh (father) has remarked that my remaining in the service of the Empire in the space branch is the wisest choice I made, ::smiles:: and I agree for a change.
I do miss ch'Rihan (Romulas), my family and most notably Ejuil. I wonder how he is and what has happened in my absence. ::gets up and rearranges the holopictures she has of home and family::
There are many things, to attend to. I will finish this log later.

The launch went well and for that I have the crew to thank. Both for the pre-launch preparations and for the launch itself.
We are on our way to the pre-determined testing site located near the Draken system. There will be a series of test designed to test the New York and our crew. I have no doubts concerning either the ship or the crew.
Ensign Greene became ill and had to report to sickbay. I plan on meeting with the doctor asap. We will need to know soon if Greene can be treated here or will need the facilities at the base.
I was given the expressed honor of promoting LCpl Justin Kinsely to a commissioned rank. General Weslynes was informed of his attendance at the Marine Academy on his home world. So Kinsely is now a 2nd.

I have been told that I must attend a training program when there is so much to be done. So be it, I shall be there. I will alter my shake down cruise to accommodate this. I have already notified the testing facility that the New York will be delayed.
Hopefully, this will not impact negatively, on the ratings for the completion of the test. We were on a deadline. I have my own thoughts on this but will remain silent. I will trust those in command have more information than I.

I have finished the last of my plans for the shake down. The rest now resides with Star Fleet and what they want and expect. I have been on shake downs before, so I do have some idea of what to expect.
I know most of this crew is more then ready and the new members will prove more then worthy. I will have the mission briefing ready soon and will send it out.

The testing is proceeding well. A few things, I am not that pleased with, *but* as all new ships and crews fare I believe we are better then most. The strong and weak areas are being shown and will allow impovements to made where needed.
We were under attack by 3 testing drones, both our tactical officer and fighters dispatched them. We have been boarded, due to a shield failure after a series of hits in the aft starboard section. ::laughs:: Perhaps the drones have been programed by Rihann's. As an old professior of tactics in the Romulan War college taught. "Learn the strenghts and weakness of your enemy and then use it against them with out hesitation. Know they will do the same, and act accordingly." ::shakes her head and sightly smiles:: There is more but...........
I finally got the transmission from Ilairhi Terrhi ILhoell, and sent the treatment proceedure to the cmo. Now, we not lose our Ensign something which please's me greatly.

The testing at the Darken testing facility has been completed. I am more then pleased with this crew and the performance of the this ship. The boarding party that entered the ship while shields were down were dispatched quickly, and the questioned. I commend our CSec officer for speed in which the boarders were caught. I will say this, the methods of questioning vary with our cultures. While there, is this difference the result is what matters.
From the start to finish. of the test there were four attack drones. Between tactical and our fighter pilot the drones didn't last long.
Several areas where shown to need improvement and a course of drills are being established to bring about these improvements. I have no doubt they will meet not only the standards of Star Fleet, but mine in no time.
On a pleasent note the treatment that Ilairhi Terrhi ILhoell sent worked. Ensign Montage will recover phyically but emotional it will take longer.

Immediately following the test at the Darken Facility we received the orders for our first mission. We sent on a mercy mission. To me this is one of extreme importance. A race is threatened by a double threat.
One is famine, why the elements have allow famine form the beginning of time is still a mystery to me. We will be carry enough supplies to feed 250,000 for a week. It will be enough to hold off starvation until the convoy of freighters arrive with enough supplies to hold that number for a month.
We also are bringing seeds, plants, etc. Those things needed to allow for a full harvest next growing season.
As usual famine is the harbinger of other things. One of those is disease. And they are threatened by a pandemic. We will bring antibiotics to help stem the spread of this infection. We have been assured that this virus is not contagious to other races.
I have the doctor and science officer working on a system to deliver the medication in the most effective way possible.
All went well until we reached the Hromi Cluster. That is when three ships of the Gatherers meet us. They at first would not allow us to pass, and went so far as to power weapons. However, we were prepared for such an event. After reminding them that they were out gunned, and told to stand down the third time. I was at that time prepared to fire warning shots. Luckily there were not needed.
We will be arriving soon and entering standard orbit.

We will be entering standard orbit soon. My last communication with them was uplifting. We have arrived in time to assist them.
Unfortunately, the illness has continued to spread. I was pleased to inform them that I had the ships doctor and science officer working on this problem. There by allowing us to render the assistance they required.
While this was not part of the original mission it was not surprising that this would develop. Famine and disease usually walk hand in hand. I remember one of our colonies was almost wiped out by a similar threat. First, famine then disease.
She gets up and heads to the bridge. As she approaches the door she calls out over her shoulder

This mission which began as a simple mercy mission has developed twist and turns. As does life, develop its own set of twists and turns. But some of these are not within the realm of natural occurrences. We have learned several disturbing things.
On the famine is caused by an agent that is commonly used by the gatherers and hence we can assist them in removing the cause of the famine. Add that to the supplies and food relief they should be recovering soon.
A second factor adding to the spread of the famine is the appearance of nanobots. Which would erode the facilities used to house stores of grain and the like. Along with the water storage facilities. Fortunately, our Csci officer has a way to eliminate them from the atmosphere.
What concerns me is the time factor and how many are saved. She being who she is and Romulan has already a number in mind for the acceptable death toll since entering orbit.
Then there is the question of the debris field and the ship which passed though it and then carried the contaminated food stuffs along with the nanobots. This debris field needed to be investigated and hopefully the people who were on the ship identified. Perhaps the Aracaims themselves will hold the answer to the last question.

As I mentioned this mercy mission has me puzzled slightly. Oh not on the long standing feud that I understand. The puzzle is why the participants in this feud have found it necessary to bring others into it.
And why bring one planet to its knees by stating this as it truly is genocide though disease and famine. Surely they understand they would be discovered. ::shrugs her shoulders::
At any rate we now find ourselves in high orbit, about to begin the final steps in giving relief to them.

This mission except for the initial journey here was most uneventful. However all that changed just before we approached the Hromei Cluster.
As I review all the events of this mission I am puzzled by certain aspects. For instance, Why engage in a feud that has the earmarks of genocide? If nothing else, this is the greatest act of dishonor and one that will brand your race as an outcast. This makes no sense at all.
Now we have the Gorn vessel that was destroyed by the nanobots, or at least that is my opinion. Of course the science department will have to ascertain that as a certainty. Now why are the Gorn so far off course? Troubling. Especially if the report of the science officer is correct. That will most certainly jeopardize the trade agreement with my government.
Now what of this Captain Smith. Where does he fit in, and in one way or another he does. So many pieces of a puzzle. ::soft laugh:: But they will come together.
She stands and then leaves her quarters to go to the officers dinning room.
