Though he knew she was not looking he saluted anyway. The meeting had gone as expected, but most chess games start with similar basic moves. There would be many more before end game. He exited the officer returning quietly to his station.

Since he was weakened by the poison the Riov dismissed him to get the rest recommend by the Maenek he turned and began to leave. He saw Lt Commander Kuvak walk by him apparently called to the Riov's office.
He had not been that close to him before and his brow raised high instinctively. For a second rage surged through his blood but he quickly regained his composure. The Lt.Commander was by him before he had time to acknowledge him.
That was fine to him since he did not have to speak to the thaessu. The time would come when they did but bless the Elements today was not the day.He continued out and back to the Oria.He glanced over and saw Arrenhe deep in her work.He wondered how much of a reaction the Lt Commander had brought to her in her mind.
He looked around the Oria for a second then entered the TL to go to the marine deck to get some rest on a cot in his office so he could be ready in case things heated up again.

Kuvak had been in his office for twenty minutes. he has a lot of things swirling in his thoughts. He had to clear his mind, and prepare. He didn't know where they were, but he was sure they would have a great challenge.

Pili had been bent over the viewer at her station taking readings and formulating a possible hypothesis for their current dilemma nearly the entire time she'd been on the Bridge. She'd already discarded the standard chroniton emissions that a Romulan Warbird would put out as unlikely. She straightened and crossed the Bridge; a moment later, she pressed the admittance button to the Lieutenant Commander's office.

He opened the door from his desk without a word still looking over raw data. "Yes ensign."

She took the half-dozen steps required to enter the office, holding a PADD. "Commander." It was more of a statement than a question. "I have a hypothesis for our current issue." She'd also brought along data to back up her bold statement; data which would confirm her hypothesis ... however, it wasn't quite a theory, as what she was about to propose hadn't ever been undertaken in the fashion she'd imagined in her mind.

He looked up from his data seeing this officer in front of him. Unlike most humans she seemed to feel more confident in equations than conversation. "Please sit down." Kuvak motioned as he remembered human's did. "I would like to hear your hypothesis."

She sat down at the Commander's request, placing the PADD on the desk. "I conducted some preliminary external astronomical scans. HD 108248 is currently at −42° declination. It is typically found at −65° declination." The look on her face was serious.

"I know what your theory is, but I want you to keep it to yourself until we have our staff meeting. This is a very delicate subject." He looked over her calculation. He found them quite impressive and had reached the same conclusion on his own.

The idea that others might not view the data in front of the two of them as the facts that they were hadn't occurred to her until the Commander mentioned it. She allowed herself a glance at him; it seemed to her that he was much more experienced in social graces than she was. However, the thought was gone from her mind almost as quickly as it had entered, unbidden. She addressed him once more. "My hypothesis is as follows: If the main deflector dish can be modified to emit a subatomic particle field, it may counteract the effects of the chronitons."

It sounds like a sound theory, but before we continue there are a few things I'd like to talk to you about. He wove his fingers into each other and sat them in front of him on the desk.

She replied to his statement. "Commander. It's not yet a theory. It is simply a hypothesis." She paused, realizing that whatever it was that he had to say was of some importance.

"I have noticed that you have done very well professionally on New York so far, but I have made two observations." He took a breath and calmly began. One: You have a tendency to take control of situations which is admirable. Just remember that these other crewman have their jobs to do too and they do have experience that you don't. Two: I would like to see you become more social. As a Vulcan solitude is natural, but humans do need companionship at times."

She listened to what the Commander had to say. It wasn't the first time that she'd heard what she'd internally dubbed 'the lecture', but something was different this time. In the past, various people had given her 'the lecture', but ultimately were doing so for their own means and ends, not for her well-being. She sensed that he was doing so for the right reasons; from what she'd observed thus far, there was no reason to do otherwise. "Commander, my reactions to your first statement rise out of what I see as a necessity to see tasks through to completion. However ... I will keep your words in mind." She meant it, too; while Pili rarely minced words, she also kept her word once given. "As far as your second directive, what do you suggest?"

Our people tend to stay with their families, but they are very open so just talk t them. Lean the ship and its crew. If you look, you will find at least one person more than happy to help you. He took something out of the desk. I want you to have this. Its an IDIC medallion made in the original vulcan design. I wore one like it when I first joined New York. I see it as a symbol between not only my people and your but hope that one day my people and our Rihannsu brethren will reunite as equals."
