"They are well Ihhei. My parents store is doing very good.My younger brother just entered the War College. My older sister will soon be bonded with a very astute Erei Arrian on the destroyer Dabhae." (Independent)And ch'Rihan is beautiful the flowers and the trees are just starting to bloom in the Capital City."
He stood at attention as the Riov listened. As always she had picked up on the marines before he had brought it up.And they did surprise him in there duties as well.He needed to say nothing more about them she had already addressed the point.

She nodded. "I will feel better knowing a Rihannsu has your post again. It is not always easy since our values and those of the Federation conflict at times. It is a fine line I walk somedays."

He knew her words were a statement and not a question.Yet she showed a considerable amount of confidence in him with that statement.
"Riov I am honored to be back aboard the New York.I will not bring disgrace to you and the Gai'Shian aboard this ship will not disappoint. They are not Rihannsu but they are proud warriors and their training is better than I expected."

His head still throbbing he made his way to the Riov's office and rang the chime.

Seeing that Yhea was not well and they had spoken while on shift she dismissed. After he left she indulged herself and had a glass of rhennish, (a purplish dry wine, more intoxicating then Rihannsu ale)she sat back in her chair considering the new science /second officer.
Again she briefly wondered what she did to upset her superiors in high command or the elements, perhaps both. She was not in favor of reunification, or for her personally to have any contact with thaessu. But to her they were more Yyaio, (lit. "dead one." since they refused to accept, embrace and be the emotional beings they were. to a Rihannsu this is death.) then among the living. She nodded as she considered the old saying they must have been in the forefront when it began.
She decided it was best not to prolong this any longer. She sent a comm to the new officer to come to her office.

He received the summons from the Captain and reset the pass code on his terminal. He stood up straight and walked over to office door. He activated the visitor alert and stood with his hand to his side.

Hearing the chime she debated placing the rest of the rhennish in the reclaimer, then decided against it. This was her ship, not a Yyaio ship. He would learn to adjust not she to him.
"plhere" and the sooner he learns a few Rihannsu words the better. She waited for him to enter.

He heard the summons given him in Rihannsu standard and entered. He stood at attention. You summoned me, Lhhei?

'le, I did. Have a seat." She watched his every move as if he was under a microscope. She could detect nothing in this Yyaio, perhaps he was dead inside.
After a few minutes, "Tell me your feelings, ah opinions on being here on a ship with so many Rihannsu. And are you of the belief that reunification should be enacted?"

He sat down pondering the questions of the Romulan Captain. It was obvious that she had her own opinions wrapped in a tempest of emotion.
Hann'yyo, He acknowledged the act of at least offering him a seat before this inquiry. first question: I'm against reunification. At least I'm against it in mass. I think if some of your fellow Romulans wish to follow the path then they should be permitted. However as a whole, it is logical to assume your people do not plan to change their view as whole so hoping for that to change is also illogical.
To answer the second, I asked to serve on this ship. My former post was the Horizon, which as I'm sure you are aware is crewed entirely by Vulcans. It was logical for me to wish to broaden my perspective and if this newly formed alliance to flourish every would need to put aside preconceived assumptions. The best way to do that is to work among those who would have the strongest prejudice.

She took another sip of her drink while he spoke, her eyes never leaving him. She nodded and a sly smile crossed her lips for a brief second.
"Ah, I see. It would be only the Rihannsu against such reunification, and to change their views. Interesting."
"So *you* wanted this post on the New York to work with those who have the strongest prejudices. Again interesting. Since you wanted your horizons to boarden I will make sure they do. I would not wish to deny you this."
"I will be frank, I am against reunification. We have endured enough caused by Vulcans though out our history. Why place ourselves in a position to allow more indignities. I believe we both now understand each other and our positions."
"I will expect and demand no less from you then another Rihannsu. And perhaps more, since you are so much better then we are. Or at least that is what you have lead others to believe." She held up her hand to stop any protest.
"You will place this ship, me, and the crew above yourself at each turn since you are the now the second officer. Is that clear. And if sent to fight I will expect that as well." She waited for his response.

He watched as the Romulans eyes burned with righteous indignation. She had strong viewpoints and wanted it know from the beginning. She must have given the speech before because it seemed rehearsed. Still he had to give the performance four out of five. When she raised her hand he wondered why. There was nothing said to him that was unexpected. Not only had he familiarized himself with Romulan views but hers specifically. When she finished he paused a moment feeling she might need to have a moment to breath. The things you ask of me are things I would expect of myself. As an assigned crew member to New York, I am loyal to New York. I would expect anyone on this crew to give their lives for the ship, the crew and the mission. It would be illogical to expect less from myself.

She looked at him to think they at one time were a united race. And now they had gone a separate path after being asked to leave. They had fought, died to save Vulcan and not even acknowledged. They were to be forced to adopt a way that went against who they were in favor of a passionless existence devoid of feelings, filled with logic in its place.
It would be a cold existence unbearable to suffer. And now he speaks of tolerance to those Rihannsu wishing for reunification. Where was the tolerance then, and where they not taught intolerance to their bothers, sisters, parents. Her eyes closed for a second, regained her composure and then she looked at him.
"Be sure you understand this. I will not accept less then what I would of a new officer fresh from war college. Take care Vulcan you time here maybe shorter then you realize. Do you have any questions, or perhaps something you would like to say. You have permission to speak freely within reason."

He stood. "Lhhei, the history of the great Exodus is taught as part of Vulcan history. I consider S'task, just as important to Vulcan history as Surak. Surak brought us peace through discipline and logic. S'task protected that peace and allowed it to flourish by his decision to depart with the eighty thousand. I know there are some Romulans who don't have a hight opinion of Vulcans. But we both know that this ship and the alliance with the Federation represents a bold step on both sides. The only thing I hope to accomplish in my posting here is the same thing I would hope you would want to by taking command of a Federation vessel. I want to show that we can all coexist in this quadrant. Vulcan, Human, Romulan, et all. Infinite Diversity in infinite Combination, I am here to support that principle."

She listened to him and sighed inwardly. What was the point?
"Yes of course." she sat back then stood up and walked to the VP looking out at the familiar star patterns, and finding peace in them.
She turned and looked at him. "If there is nothing else, dismissed."
