Tarawa was not the posting Jack has expected. At least, not yet. He had spent months in the MCE(Marine Corps of Engineers) He had made XO on his ship, but he wanted to work on a captital ship with the best people. He looked around and all he saw was defeat. This ship had taken a beating the last battle in more ways than one. He had forgone the funeral proceeding for their fallen Bolian mostly because he had never met the man.
He had been operatiing with a skeleton crew for that reason. It was Jack's routine to always walk the entirety of any ship he was newly assigned to. He had not only seen equipment in need of repair but spirits too. He noticed the Captain spoke with sad eyes. He slowly walked to the observation deck.

He walked back into engineering like a condemned man waiting to be executed. He want to the Chief and stood at attention. " Sir reporting as ordered!" He thought if he was going to go out he go out with a bit of class.

Winslow, don't get me wrong. He said thinking. I like you. I think you do an excellent job or I would not have sent you on the bridge and on most occassions your acntics would be amusing. Hell, it probably lifted the Colonel's spririts a bit after she got over the shock. However, you need to learn to mix professionalism in with the rest. You don't go on the bridge and start a 'floor show' when you are representing me.

He nods. "Aye sir your right that was very unprofessional. Probably why I'll never be higher than a Sgt. Again sorry sir I will work on being more unprofessional... I mean more professional sir."

Well, as a reminder I'm gonna have to restrict you from the bridge for 48 hours. He smiles. Unless the ship falls apart then I'll have to put my best man on it.

Jack noticed that Winslow had checked into Engineering. He sent a text message to the 'Pool table' for him:
Welcome back,
I hope you enjoyed your short vacation because we have a lot of work to do. Your sub was good, but he did not have your panache for the job. I've left you a list of maintenance duties on my desk. I've made some assignments already, but since you are more familiar with the crew I would welcome any suggestions.
P.S. When this is over the beer is on me
Jack

Post by 1st Lieutenant Marcus Lassiter on Jul 16, 2009 10:42:24 GMT -5
Marc entered the MENG with Neni in tow, and found a contrast from the loud drill of the Marine Infantry deck. The men were much more relaxed and some of them even laughing. Jack was doing several things at once. He was looking at the 'pool table' and signing things, all with a cup of coffee in his hands. He noticed Marc and the Counselor immediately, but made sure he finished all his other issues before he approached them.

Jack had gotten back to Main Engineering after putting the weapons back in place. As he had hoped, they had been working and left him a ton of things to sign off on. He looked at the report Winslow had resubmitted and made note of his changes. He had given his reasons and they were logical. He had also described it with his own flair which was not surprising either. He had decided that he didn't want to eat in the mess hall so he had gotten a mug of tomato soup to sip while he worked. He noticed two figures enter Engineering. One he recognized, Lassiter. The other was a woman with him who seemed much more curious. She looked around and acknowledged most that walked near her. "Can I help you?" He said with a smile. He'd never had visitors before, but with this length of downtime anything different was welcome
