Thelis was the quiet type. He kept to himself and to his work. He was happy with what he did and as he had never heard complaints, assumed command was as well. When the Captain had called him in, he'd anticipated questions about the defense system. It had not been flagged as a high priority project, but Thelis felt that until the mechanism was better understood, it posed a potential threat. He had mentioned this in his last report. The last thing he expected then was to be asked about a new assignment.
"Sir?" He said questioningly, even though the Captain had been quite clear. He wasn't about to question the Captain's request. If he hadn't thought that he was capable of the job, he wouldn't have asked him to take it.
"I..would be pleased to, but if I might ask Sir, why me? I don't want to appear disrespectful of your decision but my tactical experience has been primarily theoretical."

He heard the question in his opening comment, as if he is not sure of why he asked him to assume tactical or he is unsure of his tactical abilities. His ears tilted toward him, with his own questioning expression
He sat back in his modified Captain's chair as he listened to Thelis question his logic in choosing him, after accepting the transfer in posts. One word seemed to stick out in his mind after he finished his question. Theoretical
"Theoretical, you say?" He said with a hint of amusement "What better way to prove my theory in presuming that you would be the best choice for the position." He said, trying to appeal to his scientific side "As the human expression goes, We all got to start somewhere. When I first started out, I had my doubts but I turned out to be one of the best tactical officers in the fleet, before my promotion."

Thelis thought he might have heard a note of regret in the Captain's last statement and he felt fortunate that he'd been given this small opportunity to see inside the Eeiauoan. Despite his reservations, Thelis couldn't help but feel a swell of pride.
"Thank you, Captain. I'll do my best to prove you accurate. When do you wish me to start and do you also want me to continue my duties as Science Officer?"

He gave a nod when he told him that he would prove him accurate. He would see. He thought he can prove his statement by doing what he promised
"For now, you can position yourself as Tactical and Science, until such a time we can fill one of the other spots and you can decide which one you better at. Of course, I will be watching. You can start as soon as you're able, if you should decide to partake in shore leave, that is fine also."
"If there is nothing else, you're dismissed" He waited to see if there is anything else from his new Tactical/Science Officer

Thelis nodded. "Thank you, Sir." He was anxious to escape the Captain's scrutiny. While the Captain rarely raised his voice, there was an intensity about him that was, at times, unnerving.
"With your permission I would like to continue work on the "purchase" you made. What exactly are we to call this system?" He enquired. "We have the need to understand it's capabilites from both a scientific and tactical point of view."

He listened to Thelis' other resquest and his brow furrow just slightly. his ears quivering in thought. He gave a nod a couple moments later "I too am curious as to how this new vessel works, especially since I have a chip inside my head. I had pondered the idea of calling Doctor MacAuley and get a medical stand point established. Will this pose a threat to my mental stability or will it be an aid? That is the mystery. Perhaps you should work with the good doctor to establish a theory and report what you find." He paused to hear his opinion

"Certainly, Sir and I would like to bring in Engineer Latamn also. The hardware of this ship...What would happen if it experienced a malfunction? Will you still be able to maintain control over it?" Thelis realized he was rambling. "I'm sorry ,Sir. This thing has made me nervous ever since it was brought aboard. I'll get started immediately."

The brows he furrowed moments before, now raised at his comments "Makes YOU nervous? Lt, I've got a *hiss* chip inside my head that I know nothing about or what it's full capabilities are. I'm certain that it can tell me but as you brought up, the ship, or even this chip could malfuction and could fry my brain let alone the Terrasect. I'm surprised I haven't wrung the fur off my tail. I can understand your nervousness since I feel it myself. When you inspect that ship, with Latumn, just be careful that you don't cause it to malfuction. So far, I have full control of that ship and I like to keep it that way." He paused, knowing he was letting his anxieties show. He didn't let his emotions show that often but sometimes they do break through

Thelis nodded, surprised at the unexpected emotion and vulnerability Captain GrabFoot of~Two Dawns had shown. "I'll use the skill of a surgeon, Sir. Your tail, and figuratively mine, will be safe." He smiled.

He thought he smelled surprise in the male officer before him before his words eased the fear that had been present in his mind since the Terrasect pulled into the Star base "That relieves me to hear you say that, Mr. Thelis. I am sure you will do a thourough job, yet be gentle enough not to anger the ship down in the cargo bay. If you're doing anything wrong, I'll be knowing about it." His tail spiraled a bit in humor

Anger the ship? A flash of worry crossed Thelis's face before he saw the spiraled tail, indicating that the Captain was joking; and yet, it wasn't such a far-fetched idea. With the neural interface, if was quite possible that the ship and the CO could sense one another. Would the ship react to both conscious and subconscious thought? Thelis was starting to feel nervous again and shut down that line of thinking before it could compound his concerns further.
"I'll do everything I can not to anger either of you, Sir." He smiled again, but it was weaker than before.

He simply nodded, seeing his nervous smile, his voice seem to be a little shaky. He spiraled his tail "That would be for the best. Better for our healths" he said, attempting to lighten his mood
"If that is all, dismissed" he said as an after-thought

"I appreciate your attempts to keep me..us, from feeling anxious about this Captain, but I'd like to keep this perspective. This is a serious situation and I don't want to lose sight of that."
He nodded his acknowledgement of the dismissal and left, tapping his commbadge almost as soon as the doors closed behind him.

He watched as Thelis left the ready room. He knew how serious the situation is, without him reminding him. Alot of things could happen or it could not. That is the unknown and the unknown is what is makng him nervous. It was like a silent and unknown predator stalking it's prey
He shook his head, with a tail thump. He neeeded to think of more positive things. He had more important things to worry about. He also needed to take a walk. The ship is in dock and he's stuck in his office.
Getting up, he moved toward the exit, the door opening at his approach and he stepped back onto the bridge
