She shook her head, “No because I can not elaborate on what I did prior to this ship. It would jeopardize Federation security as well as the Romulan Empire. That I will not allow. Especially when you have threatened someone who has protected my family honorably without hesitation for years as being the niece of a Romulan Senator is not one without its danger.”

Ma'am that sounds noble. He said calmly. But I'm not asking you to violate national security. We humans have a simple exchange. Something to the order of "So how did you come to be on this star ship or the like. You have made it painfully clear that not only were you of some import, but so was your job. As far as your 'protector' goes, whatever trouble was visited upon him he brought upon himself. Till that happened, he was just a helm officer to me. He took a deep calming breath realizing that he was about to lose his temper. I didn't come here to argue nor should I have to justify my actions. You know that were our positions reversed your actions would be similar. This was me, making an attempt at civility. I thought that as an Ambassador you might do the same."

“I haven’t raised my voice at you, insulted your family, or asked you to justify your actions. Far as I am concerned I am civil and if you are having difficulty with your temper then perhaps you need to look within for the answer as to why.” Putting her hands in her lap she looked at him calmly without so much as a hint as to what was going on deep within her. A practiced look she got when she was doing what she did to protect her family and people. “You’re in my home right now and it would be rude of me to insult a guest. Especially one as talented as yourself.”

"I haven't lost my temper yet," He smiled. "A little frustrated, but my temper was something I had to learn to control a long time ago."I'm not asking you to break security protocol. Officially, I need to know two things: Is these other task going to impede this on any other mission the Pegasus is on, and will it put this ship in harms way. I think if either is the case you owe us some warning. Unofficially, I thought I might get to know a new officer. I didn't realize I had have clearance to have a simple conversation with you."

“You don’t, and you truly do not know anything about my people or you would have expected this to come from me and have responses already at hand.” She then smiled a bit, “Officially this ship has nothing to worry about from me or my companion being crew here. Unofficially you may speak your mind with me it won’t go past the walls here because there have been arrangements to make this a secure spot on the ship.” Looking at the wall she then looked back at him. “Would you like something to drink or to eat? I know the time is late and you might enjoy something like that on your off duty time as I presume you are off duty to be conducting this personal business.”

"Yes, " [/font]He nodded with satisfaction. "You are correct on both assumptions. I have not eaten anything either. I won't bother you for food, but I think a nice bourbon would work."

She nodded to him and then got up from her chair to find the replicator and to work with it. “Unforchanitly I do not have the connections I use to so you’ll have to put up with what the replicator can do in regards to that drink.” With that the replicator completed the task and she looked at it and shook her head. “Still doesn’t get it right but its close enough.” She then told the replicator to give her a glass of water that was cool just below room temperature and it complied. Walking back to the table she then handed him the drink still standing as it was her way. “Don’t worry; I didn’t do anything to it. Trust me if I didn’t like you by now you would have known it. Common misconception amongst the populist that we Romulans poison people at will.” Once he took the drink she sat down and took a sip of the water before putting it back down on the table looking at it as though it wasn’t quite on cue. “Still think that crews should have access to the real things when possible the replicators just don’t do justice to the subtle nuances of what it taste like or provides for substance. Wouldn’t you agree Mr. Shackleford?”

"Yes I do," He took a sip of the drink. "The replicators give you 'synthale' by default. Which means taste like but not the real thing. He frowned at the taste. Our lounge is fully stocked. I don't know much about your people and that is part of the reason I'm here. My mate...He stopped short of anymore than that. Well she was Vulcan. I know there are differences, but I did learn some of your shared history while on Vulcan. It wasn't something that many humans were allowed to see. So seeing you obviously sparked interest on my part.

“I know. You carry yourself similar to my mate’s mannerisms when he first met me. However, he is no longer in this world or with us. He was killed in combat defending what we were doing back then and defending our family.” She looked at him and there was a touch of softness to her gaze as she relived emotions that she buried along with her husband a while back. Smiling a bit she then spoke on the Romulan and Vulcan connection, “We have changed much since our times apart the Vulcans and Romulans, so you will find what you learned just interesting history and nothing more. Same with the lessons you were taught on how to properly handle a Romulan officer or dignitary when you meet with them. You’ll find our diversity just as interesting as we find yours. Just not for the same reasons or with the same motives.”

He noticed the change in her voice and face when she spoke of her deceased bond mate. He looked at her without speaking, but in his own way letting her know that they shared the same pain on some level. "You'll out that I don't deal with anyone based on their species, but we they have shown me. I was curious about your people, but also about you. I have a question, and I hope not to offend you or breach some security issue. I have noticed that though he has one basic difference your bodyguard is human. I wondered how he came to be in your service. I only ask because our peoples were very closed to each other till the treaty was signed. Before that, the only times human surfaced on the Romulan side were as missing prisoners.

“That’s a fair question to ask. He voluntarily gave up his commission in the core to be a part of my ambassadorial team is what his records will reflect as to what happened.” Her face showed she was thinking greatly about his question and she didn’t bother masking it at all. Something about him told her that it was alright to be open with him and not have to hide. “To elaborate on that he gave his commission in the core voluntarily after meeting me. He felt that his service to me would cause less disruption then his public service in the core as he is not a normal human. His wings are an apparent sign of that. If you would like more details about him then you would have to ask Michael directly because it is not my place to speak for him.” Her hand seamed to shake in her lap so she wrapped her other hand around it as though to try and hide that she was feeling a bit uneasy still talking about her former assignment. She closed her eyes for a brief moment and then looked back at him instead of the wall her gaze drifted when she was having that mild attack. “I was put out of service because of my age and mainly because of my uncle. You’ll find that official records tie me into a Senator Koval and as such my life needed to be safeguarded whatever means necessary, and that is why Micheal was best at the time.”

"I apologize if my questions have caused you some distress." He finished the Synthale, with a frown. It just did not taste like the real thing. "You've actually told me all I need to know about him. By this story it lets me know that I may not be able to include him on the next team. At least not the two of you together. It could endanger your teammates if he is more concerned with your safety than the task at hand. I'm gong to give him the opportunity to prove me wrong over time, but it may be too soon right now."

She nodded “It is too soon. He still feels the need to protect me even though it is no longer his duty to do so. I have others protecting me now from a distance and will intervene if it is necessary. For the most part though I will be on my own, and it is not your question that caused me pain. It was something else, something you need to concern yourself about.” She looked at him levelly, “Are you sure you do not wish to eat.”

He now realized this was more of a request than an invitation. It was clear she was working up to saying something, but Andy wasn't sure what. "I think I will." He smiled. "I'll let you decide what we eat though."

She nodded to him getting up from the chair that was now sitting beside the table as she had been getting up and down out of it recently and was her way to do that. “I will do something from your homeworld as I have learned to tolerate some of your foods. Might be why I wasn’t recalled to the homeworld…I got too humanized.” With that she turned to the replicator and had it replicate two portions of the following on two plates: red potato mash with butter and cheese, green beans in butter reduction, New York strip stake. The replicator was efficient and worked on it and had it in a matter of minutes. She took the plates in her hands and then set them down on the table before going back to the replicator to ask it for salt, pepper, steak sauce and bacon bits. She then placed those between them on the table before asking the replicator for two glasses of water and two glasses of an Earth wine that would pair nicely with stake. She then put those down on the table before sitting down. “I hope this is accurate. If it is not I can ask the replicator for something else.” The napkin and silverware were replicated with the meal so everything seemed to be in order for her.
