She looked at him and was quite for a moment and then she spoke softly. I am no longer an officer of the Vulcan military or in Starfleet. She waited for his response be for she said anything else.

The shock in his eyes betrayed his calm demeanor. Was this by choice or by force?

It was my choice, the High Command offered to make me a Sub-commander if I stayed but I declined there offer. Starfleet made a similar offer I also declined. I have served both for 48 years I decide it was time just to pursue life. The General offered me a post working in the lounge and I took it.

Thats not an answer . As a matter of fact, I would consider it more of an evasion. You don't do anything on a whim Winter, especially after 48 years service. So before I let this go I need to know the 'why'.

She looks Andy in his eye's. If I may take a quote from Captain Kirk. I have done my part for King and country. I have other interest I wish to pursue. I have contemplated about studying different sciences.

So what is the plan then? He still was not convinced he was hearing the truth. To pursue scientific study as a 'bartender'? Are you planning on studying the chemical properties of a 'risan sunrise'?

She crossed her arms in front of her. Andy I get the impression that you do not think I am being truthful to you. And no I am not going to studying the chemical properties of a 'risan sunrise'. Tending bar is just something I wanted to try. Is that a sufficient enough answer or do you wish to continue with your interrogation?

I'm not trying to 'interrogate you', but at the same time your behavior is..What is the best way to say it? He paused for a moment knowing this might not be the best way. Illogical. Something this life changing most people work their way up to. They just don't put on another career as if they were changing under garments.

And how do you know I have not been working my way to this decision? She moved her hands behind her. Serving Starfleet or my people has become too much.... politics and no longer want any part of it. She looked away from him she did not want to fight about this. but she stood there and waited to see what he would say.

Maybe, but you are my mate. I know you like no other, understand you like only I can. He paused and gave her a look that was not accusatory, but that of someone look right through her to a place that she would not reveal to anyone else. No decision like this is made without a catalyst. So you will either tell me or decide to keep it hidden.

What do you want me to tell you Andy? That I have grown weary trying to serve both the Starfleet and My government? For not being rewarded for all I have done till I told them I was resining. But some of the thing I have done most would not think a Vulcan capable of. She moved next to him and put her hands on both side of his face and looked into his eye's I will show you the catalyst I will show you everything there will be nothing hidden are you ready?

He took of her hands briefly and squeezed it. If this is how you need to tell me, then yes.

She nods It is and you may wonder how you ever came to care about me. She moved her hands to the side of his head. My mind to your mind my thoughts to your thoughts.....Many images started to flash of the war of missions that would considered black ops. Brutal killings and torturing.

As these images that some would consider stark and brutal ran through Andy's mind he watched. He stroked the back of her hand to comfort her and waited till she had finished her story with touch, feel and imagery. He looked into her eyes and paused before he finally responded. Winter, I know you have a lot to atone for in you mind but thats just not how I feel about it. You consider the things you have done to be brutal and not worthy of remembrance. I can only say that though I have not done this for 48 years as you have I have a few insights on the matter of my own. When you did this, it was a time of war. I have seen and done similar things in times of peace. The things that must be done by soldiers are a soldiers privilege, and a soldier's right. I have seen many lose their taste or nerve for the job. Taking a life, any life under any circumstance goes against the basic nature of any species: To cherish life above all else.
What you need to understand is that the things you've shown me I have already seen in part. I didn't have to meld with you to see in your eyes that you had seen action like that. There's a part of you that changes and only those who have done it or been in combat can understand it. It is the reason why we say 'What happens in the field, stays in the field." Because you do what you have to at the time you have to do it, but it is part of war and survival. When I came to Pegasus, I was carrying a similar guilt and it was my time with the General that made me understand that you can't sit around and feel sorry about what you have done because there are plenty of others out there who have done the same or more. Winter you are my mate and my wife, I want you to be happy. If serving Andorian ale is your therapeutic way of working through this I'll support it, but just don't hide it from me. I just want you to understand that it was that part of you that attracted me to you in the beginning. It is the very few who have the 'Iron will' to do those things that others shy away from that allow us to preserve our way of life. I felt you a kindred spirit in that regard
