They reached her quarters and she keyed in her access code.
"Welcome Drayce Summersday, to my humble quarters." laughing as she said it.
"Have a seat on the couch while I get us a glass of wine to wet the appetite before our meal"
"Computer 2 glass of red wine." She watched them materialize and then brought them back to where he was sitting. She handed him a glass and sat next to him.
"To a new found friendship"

He accepted the glass, and raised it to her toast. "A new friendship in deed, Miss Deborah Vasset."
He took a sip, glancing around the room, "Though, I would not call this humble. It has more room than a freighter family cabin, and more privacy than I had as a child."

"Really? Well with my last promotion my quarters were upgraded. I still have not made these really at home yet."
"Do you enjoy music Drayce? I find music at dinner most relaxing and adds indigestion. Or at least thats what my Da, taught me. I would like it if you made the selection."

He stops and thinks, the glad half way to his mouth, and finally grins. "I would be glad to."
Looking up he grins, "Computer, 20th century, Savatage. Chance. Followed by Stomp, random selection."
Finishing the motion to take a sip, "I hope you don't mind my selections. I have found such music to be soothing when I work."

She smiled as he made the selections.
"Perfect."
She took another sip of her wine and sat back listening to the music.
"Why not tell me about one of your adventures. I still have 10 minutes to get dinner on the table."

Chuckling a little, he stops and thinks for several minutes as the lyrics for "Chance" beat through the room. As it comes to the madrigal 6 part counter melodies, and the lyrics start "Father can you hear me, this is not how it was meant to be" one of his many child hood memories comes floating to the surface.
"One of my adventures, huh?
"Well, there was the time when I was 12. We had come out of the Alpha Centari star cluster. I'd been watching my instructional videos when Ma called me to the sensor panels, and told me to watch them. And, to make sure they recorded. She had managed to find a new gaseous emission, and wanted to get as much data on it as she could. Not having five sets of hands to run the 10 recorders she wanted to, she put me to work running one.
"However, I hadn't turned off my teacher, and I could hear his voice droning on from the other room. I leaned back, trying to see what he was speaking about, and accidentally turned off the recorder on the station.
"When I realized what I'd done, my attention snapped back to the pannel, about the time Mother came back to check on me. I lied, told her everything was fine, and she went on. I tried to get the recorder back on, making one hellatious mess of hte project. Setting of squeeks, squeals, whistles, alarms, and heaven's knows what else in the process.
"Of course, this broght both Mother and Father down on me immediately. Mother had my hide in strips, and Father, once he understood exactly what I had done, just laughed.
"I appologized profusely, which drove home to me that I needed to pay attention to my job first and formost, only to find out Mother had me on a dummy switch, and the entire episode had been staged."
Taking a sip of his wine, he shakes his head and chuckles a little. "Of course, that didnt' deter me in the least for making many more mistakes. I'm just grateful I made them under my parent's tutaledge, not at the Adademy. I had enough troble there."

She eyes twinkled as she held back her laughter.
"Set up by your own Ma and Da. Remarkable, in my house that would have been cause for me to become a mini beast. Which is probably why they would never do that to me."
After taking a sip of her wine she got up and went to the replicator.
"Computer, one serving bowl of Hunters Stew enough for 3. Biscuits, 6 of them with butter, 2 bowls, silverware enough for 2. Small carafe of red wine."
The replicator hummed to life as it filled her order placing everything on a tray. Deb set the table, placing the serving bowl biscuits and butter in the center, along with the carafe of wine.
"Drayce, everything is ready. Please come in and sit down for dinner. I hope you enjoy the food."

Smiling a little with a chuckle, he stands moving over to the table. Pulling out her chair a little, he leans over whispering in her ear, "Mother was like that. If there was a way to drive the lesson home in just one attempt, she'd find it."
Pusing the chair in slightly as she sat, he moved around the table to the other seat, still smiling, "Of course, Dad had a fit when he found out what she'd done. I just about lost some hide that day, because of it. But, it did teach me to watch where I was putting my hands in the future. I've only fouled one reading up since then. And, that was because the ship was experiencing electrical issues, not because I miss placed my hands.
"The old Gretchen was a tub, and we were all so happy when we managed to get into the Grendle. And, I'm sure by the time I get a chance to visit with them next time, they will be in a new ship. From what I remember, they had found several new gaseous masses which were proving to be important discoveries. I don't remember exactly where they said they were going, but I do remember Mother mentioning something about being able to get finder's rights on them, so their finances were getting to be rather plush.
"Our last find, before I entered the Academy, was what paid my tuition. We didn't have to get any financial aid. Suprised the Deans, but I just smiled and went to work. Knowing that my fees were coming out of their slim budget, I worked extra hard, and accepted every experience credit I could. That is why I managed to graduate in 2 years, instead of the standard 4 to 5 years.
"Of course, Mother and Dad were so proud, didn't hurt either."
As he finished speaking, he eyed the stew. Then, suddenly remembering seeing the caraf of wine on the table, half-stood, in order to top off Deborah's glass as well as his own.

"Your childhood sounds so much exciting then mine. Mine was typical for growing up in Brooklyn. We lived in the section that was known as Coney Island. It began as a farming area, then resort, then high end, worked its way to the botton of the barrel. Then in the early part of 2087 it began an upward swing and has been there since."
"More then likely because as its name implies it has ocean views almost for the entire place. It has 2 parks and one of them was my favorite. Until I became a teenager and then my parnets swore I would become a beach bum." she laughs at the memory"
"Are you enjoying your dinner?"

Chuckling along with her, he nods, sampling his stew, then digging in with more gusto.
"How did you managed to get the replicators to make this with so much body? Usually, the full flavor is a little lacking. Or did you add something to it after it came out?"
Taking a sip of his wine, he listens to her melodic voice blending with the selection of Stomp then playing.

"Now, if I told ya, how I got the stew to taste so good what would be, the incentive to come back for dinner again." She smiled and a slight mischievous look played on her face.
"But I'm glad to see your enjoying your dinner so much. Don't forget the biscuits. I have a dessert planed too. Normally I don't eat dessets by myself. Have to watch my girly figure, or so my ma used to say."

Finishing his serving of stew, and finally getting a biscuit or two, he mopped the bowl with them, snorting a little at the comment.
"You? Need to watch your figure?" His eyes travel over what he can see of her figure above the table a couple of time, "I don't see anything wrong with it. Nor could I imagine you ever loosing that lustrious shape, so long as you remain in the Marines. I hear they keep you on tough training excercises several hours a day, barely leaving time for you to eat on shift."
His eyes glint mischieviously, and he smiles that lop-sided smile again, a little stew still dribbling out of his mouth. Feeling it, he licks at it provocatively, then returns to grinning at her.
"Or am I miss informed?" He chuckled finally.

"Well, a little. We do have drills but not several times a day. And they can be very exacting. Once I remember, back in boot camp. The drill sgt, got pissed, well more then that."
"He told us to meet him at the field 1900 hours in full battle gear. We did not like we had a choice, mind you. Anyways, it was pouring like cats and dogs with maybe some mice thrown in for extra measure. He had back packs for us weighted mind you."
"We got them on, and then he yelled out. Double time forward march, lets go now! It was a long long night and very wet. It seemed to drag on and on. But it wasn't that long in reality."
"Needless to say the one who got the drill sgt in such a wonderful mood was not talked to very much for a few days."
"Are you ready for dessert? I have some truffle my mom's recipe and a waist killer but so good."

Chuckling a little. "I don't think I could have lasted in that conditinon. I had enough trouble with the mandatory physical training required in the academy for just us Naval types. It wasn't nearly that intense.
"Desert, did you say?" Glances at his polished plate, "I won't turn it down. Especially if it's from the same set of recipies which made up this wonderful stew."

She smiled at him and then stood up and took the dinner dishes to the reclaimer. Then got dessert with coffee.
"Here ya Drayce. My mom's trifle, and some coffee."
She sat back down then took a sthingyful.
"My mom could us kids to do anything by saying if you do I'll make ya some of my special kids trifle. That was the one made with flavoring and not the real liquor. Of course, for a long time we believed it was the same as the grown ups." She laughed.
"My da, would tell us that we had best watch how much we ate otherwise we could get drunk."
