I cut my lunch short. He frowned. The company was not as favorable as it was before. So now we are on the subject of you. I'm told you want a RIO assigned to you?

She nodded. Yes sir I thought it might be a good idea seems these new fighters have some issues. It would not hurt to have a RIO watching the systems. Also if the Colonel sends us out it always good to have another set of eye's out sir.

I think Chief Patricowski would be insulted by the implication. He smiled. He shook out all the bugs on our crafts long ago. Not a lot of people know, but he could have been an engineer on any starship in the fleet came out top of his class in engineering school. He just loves fighter craft, but I have a woman in mind. Becky Dobbs. She's one of the best RIO's in the fleet.

I meant no insult to your Chief Patricowski Sir. I am sure he is the best. I was implying the fighters them selfs seem to have bugs not just the ones here but I have heard other fighter groups have had problems. Much like the NX Defiant when it came out it took time to work out all it's bugs.
With that said sir I will have Lt. Dobbs report in and we will be on standby by to launch on Catapult 2 and at alert ready 30. If you agree with that sir.

One more thing Lieutenant, He added. My pilots are the best. I do not tolerate substandard skills. On most ships three missed 'three wire landings' and your grounded. On mine, its two. Just to give you a fair warning.

She grins. Understood sir but I never miss. She saluted him and waited for him to dismiss her.

Then you may find your RIO. I would suggest some simulator time to get each other rhythm but you probably will go in cold. Dismissed. He smiled

Marc had eaten light, but the meal was satisfying. His talk with Saito had been short, but productive. He had already profiled her as an 'overachiever' and nothing in her conversation with him had changed that opinion. She would be a good second for him on the hangar deck. He left word with the deck and her that she would be in charge, but to keep everyone at the ready for action. He would expect her to respond to any other reports requested from the Colonel. Marc only wanted to notified if the fighters were 'scrambled' to action.

Standby was always a time of grumpy anticipation for pilots, but or the deck crew it was the time when 'business picked up'. The craft have to be taken out of holding. They fire each of them to make sure the engines are running to perfection. Once they ready them the pilots come in and get their assigned craft at the ready so that they can jump in and fly out at the moment they are scrambled. The Air Officer and Deck Chief Hedgehog Patricowski, then gets to do the least favored part of his job. Listen to pilots complain. He once had a guy who had watched too many old vids and felt all pilots should smoke cigars, and wanted to know why his fighter craft did have and 'ash tray'. Bart explained physics and combustion to him and he seemed to change his mind on the whole cigars in a fire fight idea.
He had gotten Saito's craft prepped in advance and asked the Deck Chief on her last ship what she liked. He watched her walk by presumably to find her RIO. Bart had gotten to know Lassiter in his short time here, and before Saito arrived, Lassiter had consulted with Bart on most things. He used the knowledge of the crew and pilots that Bart had to get a quick and efficient understanding of some of the other pilots. Bart went to the nearest thing he had to an office, the launch command booth. He sent a few reports to Lassiter and began his watch.

She stood by her fighter and waited for Lt. Dobbs to show up. As she waited she watched the deck crew get her ship ready for launch. Moments later Lt. Dobbs walked in to the hanger bay suited up and ready. She approached Saito and reported in. 2nd Lt. Becky Dobbs call sign Boo-Boo reporting.
She smiled. Hello Lt. Dobbs I am 1st Lt. Yuriko Saito better known as Yo-Yo I am the new Xo to the Tarawa Fighter wing. We are on alert stand by and I need you to be my RIO. Beck nodded and said Yes Ma'am ready to rock. They both climbed in to the cockpit of the fighter and started to go over the preflight check list.
Yuriko gave the signal to Chief Patricowski to move them into launch position.

Bart looked and smiled to himself. He knew that the new 'stick' would want to go out right away. "Ladies, You are clear for launch, but remember that we still are on standby. If you fly to far away from Tarawa and get spotted by the colony, the CAG will have our collective butts.

She thought to her self the CAG has a good sense of humor. Sure she was the best RIO but she knew he must have thought it funny. Yo-Yo and Boo-Boo.
She heard the Chief tell her they were clear for launch but they were still on stand by and not to get spotted. She looked to the chief and smiled. Not to worry Chief we will stay with in 4.02 km of th ship. She closed the canopy. She gave the chief the thumbs up and powered up the engines.

Bart sent the signal out to clear the deck then started the automated process of moving the craft to launch. The hangar bay doors opened and the gravimetric sling positioned behind them. He reestablished his communications link with the two craft technicians. "Alright ladies, launch ins 5,4,3,2....1. The craft is fired out of the hangar into open space.

The force from the gravimetric sling and the impulse engines at full power pushed her back in her seat. The hanger streaked by and then she was in space this is what she waited for and it was worth the wait. She opened a channel to the Chief. Thanks Chief Patricowski I owe you. She flew around the Tarawa and looked around into space.
