Shran grew up on the ice planet Andoria in the shadow of the Alliance. Named after an ancestor, General Shran whose fame extends from his heavy handed quelling of the alien rebellion against the first Terran Empire and for being the only non-human to ever hold the Imperial throne (If only for a short time), He was born and bred in a warrior family. Both his parents died in battle, a fact which he could care very little about. They died because they were weak and no such weaklings are worthy of his love or even notice.
Overly ambitious Shran has always known that he was destined for great things. Completely secure in his superiority he enlisted in the Andorian Guard as an infantry soldier. He lied about his age inorder to join two years before he would have normally been allowed. With the constant border battles and the struggle against the Alliance the recruiters didn't concern themselves with such messy questions and readily allowed the Andorian child to fight for his people and for personal glory.
He rose quickly through the ranks of the infantry eventually earning a battlefield commission after single-handedly defeating a squad of Cardassian shock troops at the Battle of Tellar Prime. It was here that he also received his most noticeable feature, a long scar that runs across his face from forehead to cheek. It was the result of glancing blow by a bat'leth.
The Andorian Guard watched the Terran Rebellion with growing interest as they began posing more and more of threat to the Alliance's power. Though some believed that Andoria should rush to aid the resistance the majority felt it would do better if patience ruled. So Andoria watched and waited as the Alliance was defeated and the Terran Empire was again reborn, yet still Andoria waits for their former allies to prove that they can reclaim the glory which once was their Empire.
Thy'lek Shran on the other hand was never one for patience. Though he cares little for the pink-skins or their Empire he is well aware of an opportunity for glory when it comes along. By waiting Andoria is only sacrificing the position it could secure in this new Empire and Shran will not make the same mistake. He joined the Imperial fleet knowing that as the fledgling Empire grows their will be great opportunities for glory and power. The Empire is built upon the philosophy that in a cold universe only the strong survive and Shran plans on being the strongest of them all. His ambition is lofty and even though he isn't human that is no reason why he shouldn't one day be in command himself, maybe even more...
Shran has only contempt for humans and especially their pet races, like the Vulcans. Always confident and suspicious to the point of paranoia he has no real trust or camaraderie for his fellow crew-mates. He will work with them for the sake of victory but only so far as that it doesn't impede his own personal glory and honor. He has a special disgust of naval officers. He is a practiced warrior and the only true way to kill an opponent is by looking them in the eye and proving your superiority in ground combat. Starships destroying starships, though it is necessary, is no way for a true warrior to do battle.
He was first stationed on the ISS London, where promotion was swift for those who had the stomach for assassination. The Captain's chair had many occupants, still Shran separated himself from the infighting for the command chair. He was still an outsider to humanity and bided his time observing those around them and how they acted. He won many great victories and earned enough glory and promotion to satisfy only his smallest ambitions. After the London was destroyed in combat Shran was transfered to the ISS Defiant, the flag ship of the Imperial fleet. It is here where he now plans to put his plans into full effect. Emperor Shran has a pleasant ring to it....
