Well, it¡¦s the summer, the weather hotter, the beach or pool beckons, and Star Trek is the last thing on your mind.
Lets face it, we are all guilty of it. Just yesterday I was trying on 2 new skirts, and a tube top, its here, and things are kind of slow in the recruit room.
Let¡¦s face it, we love Star Trek, and could never go cold turkey, but like festival on planet Beta III, the summer calls to us all. Well, Landru is not of the body of summer fun, but we haven¡¦t lost our free wills totally.
Every member should once in a while, pop in the Recruit room, stick around a bit, and role play awhile. This is what makes us a great group, so on those off nights, stop by for a betazoid tea, and some role play.
We also need some active recruiting, and who¡¦s not better then the actual members in the United Forces. Our recruit room is infamous for its water balloon fights as well. You who have AIM shouldn¡¦t be left out as well. We have the UF Lounge that sits alone, with barely a soul. Lets throw a Klingon Toga party folks. The lights are on, Mom, and Dad went to aunt Gladys house, let¡¦s party.
So before you end up at a dead spot in your summer, don¡¦t forget the fun you can participate in your UF chat rooms. Don¡¦t forget, the chat rooms are accessible through the board, you must be registered, and logged in.
Alien Corner
HUMANS
1st Lt Stephanie Morgan. Typical human female
One of the most influential and important species in the Alpha quadrant, Humans originate from the planet Earth in the Sol system. The early history of the planet was remarkable in many respects - chiefly for the number of contacts with alien civilizations which occurred. All of these proved to be of a very limited type however, and it was not until 2063 that the first official First Contact occured. At this point Earth was suffering the effects of a large scale nuclear war and was at a particularly low point. A group of scientists working under Zefram Cochrane had been working on a method of faster than light drive system for spacecraft when the war occurred. Despite having no official funding and poor living conditions the team pressed on with their project, and by 2063 they where able to launch the Phoenix, making Humanity only the second of the current major species in the alpha quadrant to utilize this form of propulsion.
Zefram Cochrane warp ship the Phoenix.
Cochrane's flight attracted the attention of a Vulcan survey vessel which was in the system; the Vulcans subsequently sent a shuttlecraft down to make contact with Cochranes team. The discovery that they where not alone in the universe had a profound impact on mankind, bringing all the people of the Earth together as never before.
Rapid progress followed, and by 2113 poverty, hunger and war had been abolished from the planet.
NX Class
In 2151 Humanity launched the NX class, their first true long range interstellar vessels. Their sphere of influence began to expand rapidly as new colonies were established and new trading routes opened. Finally, in 2152 they encountered the Romulan Empire; the two powers subsequently fought a brief but intense war which was ended in when the Romulan Neutral Zone was established in order to provide a buffer zone between the two powers.
The Romulan War proved to Humanity that they had over-reached themselves, and they sought to form an alliance of different civilizations in order to provide for greater stability and prevent further conflicts. The United Federation of Planets was established in 2161 when the Humans and Vulcans signed the Federation Constitution. Although the Federation is regarded as a model of inter-species cooperation, Humans have always tended to dominate it - to the extent that the Klingons once dubbed it a Homo Sapiens only club!
Typical Human male, Sgt Forrest Langley.
Physically, Humans are bilaterally symetrical bipeds whose skin and hair can vary considerably between individuals. As with most species there are two genders, male and female, but unusually there are several different racial groups. In most other respects Humans are physically close to the average for an Alpha quadrant species.
The Borg designation for humanity is Species 5618; the borg class Humans as originating in Grid 325; they regard Human physiology as inefficient, with below-average cranial capacity, minimal redundant systems and limited regenerative abilities.

Crio's Trivia Corner
===From the Office of Captain Crio Ijoula --- USS Terrasect===
I got some more participation in last week's trivia question. Keep it up. I'd like to see more people joining in.
==============================
Last week's question was a Deep Space Nine (DS9) question, carrying a difficulty rating of 1.5
=/\= According to Ben Sisko and Jadzia Dax, Curzon Dax's name is revered by what race, because of spending so much time among them?
<ANSWER>
The Klingons
Correct answer received by:
Lt. Anarra Danrea
Lt. Karin Aidair
Lt. J'Den
*Eager-beaver question*
When Jadzia underwent the Trill zhin'tara ritual to allow her to 'meet' all of Dax's previous hosts, who embodied Curzon, and what was the real reason why Curzon washed Jadzia out of the Initiate program?
<ANSWER>
Odo 'embodied' Curzon, and the reason was because Curzon was in love with Jadzia.
Correct answer received by:
Lt. Anarra Danrea
Lt. Karin Aidair
<The Eager-Beaver question was based from the episode "Facets" (DS9)>
==============================
For this next question, I'm going to extend the time frame for answering by a couple of weeks, due to the difficulty level.
This question carries a difficulty level of 5, and is based on one of the movies.
<Star Trek: First Contact>
=/\= What three Enterprise officers set the auto-destruct sequence, and tell me the authorization codes used by each of the officers in question.
*Eager-beaver question*
There is a reference in the movie to Data being "fully functional-programmed in multiple techniques." To what incident in the past was he referring to when answering the Borg Queen's question about how long it had been since he'd used those techniques?
==============================
Thank you for supporting Crio's Trivia Corner
The answer will appear in next week's edition of the UF Weekly newsletter. Good luck to everyone.
As always, please email your answers or guesses to chrisdeel@aol.com Please put either "Trivia", or "Crio's Trivia Corner" in the subject line.
