Greetings,
The USS Vindicator, has a new Acting CO. Colonel Keraz is confined to his quarters due to an illness which was the result of the explosion of Praxis. He was working with the Empire and was close enough to breathe in enough toxins to cause lung damage. During this time, Lt. Colonel Thomas Allen will be the acting Co.
The Vindicator under Colonel Allen has undergone some restructuring. And has seen an increase in crew members. They should be ready to resume active duty soon.
The other new Marine Vessel under the command of General Hunter has also seen some changes. She will be launching under the United Forces banner this week and we look forward to seeing her launch.
Plans for the several courses at the Marine Academy are proceeding and will be announced shortly.

Letter to all the new recruits
From the Desk of Field Marshall J Weslynes
Greetings,
We have seen a lot of new recruits within the past two weeks. Each and everyone them is welcomed into the United Forces family. I wanted to say a few things to you.
The first is that in the UF, character development is very important, and is considered in as a factor for promotions. This can be achieved several ways. The first and the most think immediately is the sim itself. And without question that is an important step. But there are other things you can do to develop your character.
The second is to frequent the recruit room, and the lounge which is lounge aim friendly. I've had members tell me that when they go in no one is there. I would suggest the following, you can IM UF members you see online and ask them to join you. Arrange before hand to meet someone in the lounge. This will give you an opportunity to role play thus developing your character. This participation is will increase your changes for promotions taking place more often.
Another way to develop your character is to post on the boards in the various areas of the ship. For instance, ten forward, dinning room, gym and training area, holodeck etc. This will not only develop your character but breathe life, and interest in your ship that goes beyond the sim itself.
Then there is development of a sub plot for your character on the ship. These sub plots are played out on the boards and enter the sims when appropriate. If the sub plot fits the current story line your CO will give you the opportunity to play this out during the sim. Many of the story lines have taken on an interesting side that would not have been available before. You can discuss this with your CO, or your CO after reading it will speak to you about including this in the storyline. I remind everyone when doing this, if its any part will be in the sim you need CO approval.
If you have any questions on this please feel free to IM or email me and I will answer you ASAP.
Alien Corner
DENOBULANS
Technically advanced Humanoid species originating on the planet Denobula in the Denobula Triaxia system. The Denobulans have had contact with Humanity since at least 2151, and one of their number worked with Earth's Starfleet in that year. Denobulans can be identified by the characteristic bone ridges on their face. They tend to be a friendly and outgoing people, curious about the world around them and especially interested in the customs and habits of the alien species they meet.
The Denobulans have a complex mating patterns, including a periodic mating season. Details of the mating process are relatively scarce, but the Denobulans have males and females much as Humans do, with at least two "combatants" engaged in the act of mating. They produce strong pheromones to indicate when they are interested in a romantic relationship. The Denobulans practice group marriages, with several wives and husbands in a single family group.
They had a form of entertainment similar to movies a few hundred years ago, but these lost their appeal when the people realised that their real lives were much more interesting. As a rule, Denobulans don't like to be touched by others. Parts of the Denobulan night life can be disturbing to the uninitiated, and it is not advisable to venture out at night alone. Denobulan males are very uncomfortable undressing in front of others, but are quite comfortable naked when alone. Most Denobulans do not talk during meals, as they regard it as a waste of time.
The Denobulans fought a series of wars with the Antarans, with the last finishing around 1851. Much animosity still exists between the two species, especially on the Antaran side. Denobulans regard stress induced hallucinations as a healthy and harmless way for a person to release nervous energy.
Denobulans normally require very little sleep, but they do hibernate for six days each year - if woken during this cycle they are extremely groggy and unsure of their surroundings. When stressed, a Denobulan will sometimes initiate an instinctive defence mechanism which causes their face to puff up to about twice normal size, intimidating an attacker.

Crio’s Corner
only got two answers to the last trivia question, but I hope to get more participation.
==============================
Last week's question was a TOS question, carrying a difficulty level of 4
=/\= What rare element was the 'vampire' cloud creature composed of that attacked the crew of the USS Faragut and killed half of her crew, when James Kirk was a lieutenant? According to Kirk, it had happened eleven years ago, from his standpoint.
<ANSWER>
The vampire cloud creature was composed of dikironium.
Correct answer received by:
Lieutenant Anarra Danrea
Commander Vanessa Lucifel
* Eager-beaver Question *
How was this creature destroyed and who/what served as the bait for the creature? Also, on the Enterprise, there was a link that Kirk had to the Farragut. Who was that link?
<ANSWER>
The creature was destroyed with an antimatter charge, and initially, a canister of blood hemoglobin served as the bait. However, the creature 'drank' it all before the bomb was fully deployed. Afterward, Captain Kirk volunteered to be the bait.
The link to the Farragut was the security officer Ensign Garrovick. His father was James Kirk's commanding officer, Captain Garrovick from the Farragut.
Correct answer, with some clarification, received by:
Lieutenant Anarra Danrea
Commander Vanessa Lucifel
* The episode this question was based on was "Obsession" (TOS)
==============================
This week's question is another TOS question, carrying a difficulty rating of 4.
=/\= According to the records of the Starship Enterprise, who was the first enemy they encountered, that openly fired on the Enterprise?
*Eager-beaver question*
Before the battle, two Enterprise crewmembers were about to get married. Name both the bride and groom.
==============================
Thank you for supporting Crio's Trivia Corner
The answer will appear in next week's edition of the UF Weekly newsletter. Good luck to everyone.
As always, please email your answers or guesses to chrisdeel@aol.com Please put either "Trivia", or "Crio's Trivia Corner" in the subject line.

This is a new feature where a picture with a balloon is presented. What you do is come up with a humorous statement for the balloon by the character in the image.
