Jefferson Addison, Captain of the Defiant the most decorated ship in the fleet. Its an important position. However, as he walked through the Roman Imperial palace he didn't feel so important. He was looking for one man. Joshua Blackledge, the man who would not be Emperor. He met the man standing in the corridor outside the Emperor's office. He leaned casually against a pillar till he saw Addison arrive. "It is good to see you well, sire." Addison said suppressing a smile.
"Cut the crap," Joshua shot back. "The 'sire' is in that office. I didn't do so bad. I got my ship back and a bump in rank to boot."
"I suppose you will be fleet commander." He walks with him through the palace but it is so large that he is not sure where they are going.
"I suppose so, but you know I don' t want it. That is why you are here correct?" He said as he led them into a quiet area with no one around.
"I have plans that the position would make easier." Addison admitted. "I won't pretend that it hadn't crossed my mind." "And I won't pretend I didn't have you in mind for it." Joshua smile. "After all, I was the final vote that gave you Defiant. Though my ship is the flagship of the fleet. I would never trust just anyone with my father's ship."
"So there something unsaid here." Addison finally spoke.
"The unsaid thing that you refer to is my price." Joshua finally said. "I'm not giving you the fleet for nothing. "
"Okay, what is it that you want." He said with a raised eyebrow."
"You remember that ship you found?"
"I don't think I"d ever forget it." He smiled inwardly.
"Well, your Commodore friend has it hidden." He point to him. "I don't like anyone trying to hide something from the Emperor, whether its me or my brother. I told Malek I'd handle this so I will, which means you will handle it."
"And how am I supposed to do this?" Addison didn't like where this was going. "I don't know where he took it,and there's no way the Defiant could tow that thing and get away free."
"No," he smiled. "It can't, but you can steal its engine core. If it can't move they can't use it."
"I still have the problem of not knowing where to look." He pointed out.
"That's your problem." Joshua said. "A fleet commander has to make things happen if you want the promo and change in position that's fine. Prove you are worth it. I promised my brother I wouldn't let him down. So if you make my break my promise the lack of a promotion will be the least of your worries."
"You don't have to threaten me," Addison said in a quiet intense voice. "I have enough to motivate me."
"Good," Joshua said. "You have a week, after that I find someone else who can get the job done."
"You won't need to find someone else." Addison saluted and turned without waiting to be dismissed. It wasn't respectful, but he wasn't feeling respectful and that particular Blackledge was no long Emperor.
