Lang turned next to the smaller officer. "Yes and no Commander." He gave her a mischievous grin. "We were 'debating' about the security detail, but I was just working up the nerve to ask her out. Its a personal matter not appropriate for a time like this. I whole heartedly apologize."

"If you were to ask me, I think the two of you are quite perfect together. I'm sure you'll be able to work out the 'details' just fine." She gave them both a superficial smile.
"Don't get into any trouble Chief." She called over her shoulder to the engineer as she passed. "You'll be getting a look at what's in there soon enough."

He gave Laren and 'I told you so ' look then turned back. "I'll go back to my officer ma'am. Unless you have something else for me I want to have all my other duties out of the way to be free to devote my full attention to whatever is planned." he saluted waiting for dismissal.

Laren subtly put the weight of her heel on the toe of his boot as he spoke. When started to walk away he let up. "Ma'am, my other reason for being down here was to check on my guards who seem to be doing an excellent job. Was there anything you wished to speak to me about?"

"I would expect them to lieutenant. I did ask for your top rated offcers and it's very efficient of you to come down and check on them personally. I would have expected nothing less from you. Keep up the good work." There was unfortunately, no time to stoke the fire further and enjoy the results.

Laren gripped her PADD closer to her chest and clenched her grip around it. She gave the Commander another stiff salute before she turned to leave, but she had heard the message loud and clear and it tasted like bile in her mouth. She composed her expression then turned to her security officer. "Carry on." was all she said before heading back to her quarters.
