Kiele lay on her side on the dirt floor of the hut. Mud clung to her in patches. She shivered convulsively, though she was not cold. There must have been something in the mud. Her mind tried to put the pieces together but the effort of concentrating exhausted her. She lay still and listened. Outside she could hear voices. An argument of some kind. She focused on one particular voice, more authoritative than the others.'
"The destruction of their shuttle was accidental. It would not be seen as an act of aggression."
A second voice joined in. "This Federation has been known to use violence when it suits them."
"We have the right to defend ourselves and our way of life!" This voice sounded less sure of itself.
The first voice began again. "We will wait. With the shuttle's destruction, they may assume their personnel are dead also."
Kiele heard a rustle of leaves at the rear of the shelter. She rolled on her back so that she could see. She feared it would be an animal and she would be unable to protect herself. "Doctor, good to see you." she breathed in relief as he entered through the door. "I thought perhaps you might not have made it."

He was trying to keep his voice down the best he could as he helped Kiele to her feet the best he could "some how I think these people are responcible... We need to get out of here before they decide to do an execution or worse, put us on the menu." He half carried Kiele to the door peeking around to make sure no one was coming. The momant the 'coast' was clear they made a break for the woodline to live them to argue amongst themselves and preferably, kill eachother, "we need to find some where safe to stay until we're rescued."

She gasped when he picked her up. Needle sharp pains shot through her arms and legs. When she finally recovered her breath and began to understand his words, she pushed against his chest. "No!" she meant it to be forceful but it came out as a breathy rasp. It was enough however, to make him pause.
"Whatever was in that mud is toxic. I don't have the strength to run and you don't have the strength to keep carrying me. Our best hope is to stay and get them to help us. They've been arguing over whether or not they should kill us. Convince them they must not."
These few statements had cost her dearly. She closed her eyes, and gave him a weak smile of encouragement. "You can do it."
