He smiled. Figuring she was not in much mood for jokes, but that's how he was sometimes if he wasn't sure what else to say. He had hoped maybe she'd crack a smile.
"The others are coming back to the ship to get some rest until sunrise. When you;re ready we'll go inside.
You'll need to get something in your stomach after that. I suggest something like Plomik soup. Forgive me if I'm sounding like your Mother, but it is my job to see to the welfare off all the colonists. You of all people need to be on your feet, so let's get inside so you can get a few hours rest."
He repacked the medkit, as she seemed to be finished with everything, And put out a hand offering to help her to her feet.

*****Sim Direction******* The colonist slowely went into the shuttle to get a few hours of sleep. Some rested more peacefully then the others. Shortly before sunrise they awoke to the sound of the computer informing them that the sun was raising. *****Time advancement****** The computer also made a time adjustment based on the postion of the planet relative to the sun and other factors and the following was recorded. ****Current sim direction****** As a reminder the general conditions of site 1, where we are presently located are:
Northern coast line -- 30 degrees north of the equator. has abundant plant, animal and marine life. In comparison to earth it would be similar to Daytona FL. Temp range between 68 and 90 for max and min range would be 52 to 73 degrees. Rainfall in a 30 day period ranges between 2.50 and 6.34. Computer correction for time varience. Arrived on Thales at 2300 hours. Sunrise at 0615 hours. Woke colonist at 0530 hours. As each awake they left the shuttle to greet the sun on this new world that would now be called home. They watched as the sun rose and the forest behind them became noisy with the sounds and cries of various animals waking up. There was another sound as something came out of the waves not out of hunger instead looking for the source of the new scent in the air. The forest became nosier as the scent of humans started to drift inland. Some animals moved further back while a few ventured closer to take a look. There wasn't a humanoid on this world in over 100,000 years. The air smelled clean, the sand was pristine, and the forest behind them was lush. It was the start of an adventure of their lifetime. Few were the first on any colony and they stood on the new page of history. This was the view before them. He had return to the shuttle and nap for 2 hrs then exited the shuttle to a new Day
Smiling as he heard the sounds saw the sun rising over the Forest "Lets call the Sun Arron"
He looks around "Well we have plenty of building material" he sees everyone exiting the shuttle "How you feeling this morning Hitomi?"

After a few hours of sleep, Hitomi did feel a lot better. Not perfect, but that was nothing a few more hours could not take care of. Unfortunately between the computer waking them up and sounds of her fellow explorers moving about, rolling over and going back to bed was not much of an option.
"I'm awake... I'm awake.." She responded to her bunk mates prodding. "just let me figure out where I'm awake..."
Half an hour later, she was stepping out into a pristine world. This time it was not quite so traumatic an experience. The sun was shining and the air was the cleanest she had ever smelled. Being a native if Alpha Centauri, she always had a pair of sunglasses on.. usually atop her head. It was going to be a little wierd here though. This place only had one star instead of three.

Ravin had been outside for a few minutes talking to Coop, the Pilot when the others began to emerge from the ship.
He had just been watching the sun come up and it's reflection on the water. He found a simple peace to it. the tints and color textures of the sky were unlike any place he'd been before.
The air was so pure and rich. No industrial additives. How rare in this era of technology.
He looked around, wondering what this beach would look like in a hundred years. Buildings, people enjoying themselves in the sand, Commerce. A peaceful community.
But he had his share of nightmares. he had read about successful colonis, and he had read about disastrous ones.
Tarsus IV, Arvida III, Omicron Ceti III, Triacus. Cerberus.
And the latest, Milantheus.
What he and these people do would shape history for many in years to come. Frightening enough. If he didn't have a pilot's stomach he could well have been joining the Dr earlier.
"How are you feeling, Dr?" He asked as she came onto the beach with others coming out behind her.

After the excitement and the thrill of stepping out onto a new world wore off, he felt tired and went back into the shuttle to get some sleep
The next thing he knew, the computer voice was waking him up, He grumbled "Ok, I'm up, I'm up" He felt a bit stiff from sleeping in a shuttle seat
He got up and stretched his muscles awake and then loked out the shuttle to see the sun rising, the moons have already set
He stepped out to hear Arron suggesting we name the sun Arron "Odd name for a sun, I think. Troy would sound better" He chuckled, still a bit sleepy. "Anybody got any coffee"?
He walked out, saying good morning to Skye and Hitomi, then he turned back to Arron "I been meaning to ask you, Can you build more then just buildings, like vehicles and stuff like that"?

He looks at Troy "I can build vehicles, all type if I have the material, as well as electronics I have an engineers degree in all engineering, I can't build a Transwarp but I can build or repair a warp drive"
He walks up yo were the Grass and sand meet "Arron is better for a sun"" he laughs

"hungry too, but I am not sure I want to eat yet." She looked off accross the pristine beach and blue waters where the waves crashed and roiled against the sand. It was so inviting to run out and jump in. "Can you build me a surfboard?" She grinned to Arron. "I always wanted to try surfing." |

He shrugs "Whatever, man. it's not important" he said about naming the sun
Reason I asked about if you knew how to build other then just building is.." he broke off when he heard the good doctor ask Arron if he can build a surf board for her
He chuckles a bit at Hitomi "I can just see you out on a snapper, Gidget" He said teasingly
( Snapper is used to describe small waves, also called ankle biters. Gidget - a name of a title character in a film, and a word to describe small female surfers )

Hitomi blinled at Troy, not getting the references at all. "What is a snapper and who is a Gidget?" unlike many on this expedition, the Doc was not from earth, but from one of the earliest settled planets, Alpha Centauri. While many Earth customs and mannerisms made it over intact, many more did not or were discarded as unnessesary or unneeded on their new homeworld. Snapper and Gidget definatly got lost in the translation.

"A snapper is what people who surf call a small wave. Another term to use would be an ankle biter. Now, Gidget, is a title character in an earth movie set in the mid to late 20th century. It shown some of the adventures of a young woman who surfed. The term Gidget also refers to a girl midget, who surfs. Not saying that you're a midget, doc"
He hoped she understood his explantion, and his teasing

Ravin Laughed. He had known Terrans and had seen a good bit of ancient cinema from a hobbyist friend. He chuckles because he understood Troy's reference.
He leaned to the Dr, whispering: "Just tell him to watch out or Eric Von Zipper will get him. Don't ask".

He hears Hitomi question then He laughed at Troy's comment knowing what he meant it took a moment to reply as he was looking at the View
"Yes Hitomi I can build you a surfboard" He smiles at her then looks at Troy "Gidget was also a TV show in the 1960's on earth staring Sally Field "
He looks back at Hitomi and smiles "But are Gidget is much prettier"
"I can't wait to see the other sites" he says

"Yes, I'm anxious to see all of the sites myself." Ravin began.
"and I'm interested in hearing everyone's opinion on the various sites." He stooped down and picked up what he believed was the shell of sime type of creature that lived in the vicinity, or in the ocean perhaps.
"Oh and Troy, you mentioned a couple times about the vehicles we'll have. On the way to the next site I'll show you the manifest of the vehicles We're bringing. I helped pick most of them out. We'll have plenty of toys for you.
But first, how about a couple bars of "Beach blanket bingo?"
"He laughed" That has to be the most obscure reference anyone could make, and I actually knew it. Of course, if you're going to govern a colony, you have know these things."

But are Gidget is much prettier No matter how hard she tried, Hitomi could not keep the blush from gently colouring her normally slightly pale skin. Painfully shy in some ways, this had definatly embarissed her as much as it pleased her to be called prettier than somebody else. "I guess I will have to see the movie.." She squirmed just that tiny bit. |
