Hitomi nodded, finding out about the foods of this world was paramount. What good was it to have food all around that they could not eat. It was like holding a sweet above a child's reach and teasing them with it.
"I think the small amount of lab supplies on the shuttle can give me an answer in a couple of hours on the fruits." She looked back to the shuttle for a moment, " but as good as this fruit and those grape like things look, I think I will stick with replicated food for now."

"I think that's a very wise precaution, Doctor. And even when we begin to sample them, it should be done in very small amounts at first. An old survival technique I learned back at the academy."

She nodded, glancing back to the fruit and just imagining the strange types of bacteria and parasites that might be living within it's inviting flesh. It was enough to make anybody year for replicated food.
"I do hope everyone knows that when we start eating the native plants and animals, there will be some stomach and intestinal distress until we get used to the bacteria?"

"I hope they know as well, But as our primary physician, Hitomi, I'd like you to prepare a brief on proper native food protocol when we get back to the Mercury. We have to make sure everyone knows before the others get here.'
he paused and looked at his chronometer, then took in a breath of fresh air. The salt-stained wind didn't bother him much at all.
"And bear in mind" He continued, "That there are going to be those who think they're invincible and eat the fruit anyway. We're not going to be able to police all of that. There's always a wise guy, although I hope I'm wrong this time.
Now let's see what the other sites have in store for us."

"Aye, I agree Doctor. There will be some upsets but its to be expected and I believe they all realize that. My Mum made a point of reminding me of that. And in the literature that was explained."
"I would also agree that small amounts at first is the way to go. Only after I and the Doctor have cleared the food stuff. I know she'll be using the latest in scientific testing. Mine will be slightly different but tween the two it will be extensive."
"I know your wanting to leave Gov but us mere mortals who have been walking for miles need a bit to eat. She laughed.
She decided she would leave the work of a protocol and then enforcing it to the two of them, she would go about her work as they have for ages. Hers was more of a art mixed with knowledge and some of that was not anything she could explain out right.

HItomi laughed at Ravin's sad commentary on their colonists. Unfortunately though, he was right. There was a reason her medical supplies were well stocked up on medicines to keep starfleet healthy for a month.
"if treating embarissing intestingal issues is the worst that happens, I will be a happy Doctor."

"I'm confident that the two of you wil do a very thorough job of inspecting the native foods."
He smiled at Skye. "Actually I need to eat too, What I meant to say was that we should return to the ship for a nice meal while we all discuss what we've seen. Then we'll move on to the next site. I hate to shatter your illusions, Skye, but I'm afraid I'm mortal too. ::Laughs::

While her stomach had felt well enough to eat for several hours, the idea of eating still kind of repulsed her. Though, Hitomi was hungry, a little food would probably go a long way. She would admit that the fresh fruit she still smelled had gotten her stomach to growl slightly.
"I think I can put a little something in my stomach now."

A half smile tinged with devilishness crossed her lips. "Ach, Governor do not think I see yer as more then a mere mortal as myself. The difference between us is a title and nothin more." She laughed softly and walked to the shuttle a few minutes later she came out with a plate of shepherds pie, and cup of tea.
"I think I'll eat here and enjoy the sound of the surf, the feel of the wind, as I watch the setting sun. Your more then welcome to join me."

All the talk of food was making him hungry, listening to the other discuss wheher to go on to the next site or grab a bite to eat first
He was also anxious to see the next site, wondering if it was just as beautiful as this one but then his stomach grumbled and reminded him of food
"Man, as anxious as I am to get to the next site, food sounds even more appealing"
He went back into the shuttle only to emerge a few moments later with a tuna salad and a water

Hitomi nodded and followed suit. Disappearing into the shuttle to grab a simple meal. While stereotypical perhaps.. a small bowl of white rice and some "ginger ale" would probably sit well in her stomach. A simple meal to calm it down and bland enough to make it pallatable to her abused tongue.
Soon she too was sitting with a small tray, enjoying the feel of the warm sand beneath her, the cooler ocean breeze, the sounds of the crashing surf, and the company of friends.

He smiled at all the talk of food, then watched Skye, Hitomi, and Troy go get some food.
He the goes to the shuttle and comes back with a huge Ruben sandwich some rice pudding and a double rootbeer float
He sets on the beach "Now this is great, the beautiful views the music off the waves as they roll in" he takes a bite and wash it down with his drink
He looks out at the horizon and points "This view, things I have seen in space makes me think God is a woman"

"Aye Mr Hammond, I tend to agree. But then I always he held to the idea he had a partner, or perhaps he has no true gender. Having the traits of both in one and yet not in conflict with each other."

"Interesting Idea well we'll find out when we die, which I'm hoping is along time off" he looks at Troy
"So what do think Troy?"

He tossed out a blanket and sat next to Skye. He had gotten a few things fron the ship as he, too was getting quite hungry.
He unraveled some Hasparat and some Eminian Crab salad.
He then produced a dark bottle.
"Everyone, I brought a bottle of springwine. It's not replicated. I thought it might be a nice way to enjoy our first meal on our new home."
He took out some collapsible glasses to hand out to any that wanted some.
"This blend is not very strong. No one will be staggering along the beach" He smiled. "Um.. Dr I think a raincheck for you on any alcohol, unless you think you're ok."
He looked again to the rest of the group. "Everyone, please mind your litter. Packaging, uneaten food, we leave nothing behind here. And I think at this point we should refrain from feeding any of the locals just yet."
He poured a small glass of springwine, handing it to Skye, then began to prepare another.
