In July of 2386 the company Artifacts Inc, learned of a new world that was discovered 45 light years from DS5. They decided to set up a colony in the hopes of finding alien artifacts, if not on Thales then hopefully close by.
The last great influx of artifacts and knowledge was gained 20 years ago and they lost the bid by waiting too long. This time they vowed that would not happen again. It was better to have a thriving colony to better everyone then to lose as much as they did the last time.
They won the bid by a hare's breath and sounded a sigh of relief. At least this world would not be stripped of its primary resources. Artifacts Inc had a strong history and policy of caring for the environment. And would pick only those who agree with that policy to be apart of the colony.
They made two announcements the first one was on August 1, 2386 offering a position to its employees first then a second one more generalized to the public at large.
The first ship left earth on January 5, 2388 and stopped at DS5, on May 3, 2388 to pick up more colonist and supplies.

On DS5 many of the colonist met and started to form friendships that would last them in some cases, the remainder of their lives. These first steps proved to be foundation that would be necessary for survival in the early days.
They were not going to an established colony, they would be the first to lay foot on Thales. A world rumored to have once supported a sentient race, light years ahead of mankind.
They would have to lay down all the foundations, learning about Thales and what she offered them. Then conversely what her dangers were. There was a lot to do, and the rewards both personal and communal had the potential to be great.
