Duty Log Stardate 64863.03 -
Chief of Security Lieutenant Commander Samuel Grant reporting;
The Terrasect is set to do one last equipment and systems test tomorrow morning, 0700 hrs, and then she’ll be ready to depart. It’ll be nice being ‘out there’ again, being amongst the stars and living up to our mission.
Most of the crew seem very capable of insuring the Terrasect will be able to fulfill this mission and handle themselves in the process. With Lt. Samek running Engineering, we should not have any problems down there or experience even the ‘common’ problems which occur during space travel; Captain Harsting says he’s a “Hell of an Engineer” and of that much I’m sure.
The Security and Tactical upgrades have been completed in excellent time and have been working wonderfully, the Terrasect could give any ship in the fleet a record bout. With the additional defense system that were instaled internally, it benefits the safety and security of the ship two fold; it ensures that sections exposed to space during an accident or attack would be sealed off quickly to allow time for other people to get to safety and should the Terrasect be boarded it will allow areas of the ship to be sectioned off while security personnel are responding to the area.
There is a rather large civilian contingent aboard the ship, mostly for the mission that we have coming up, but still you can tell we’re back to ‘peace time’ operations. All the ships are converting back to civilian transports and science exploration, versus war status with soldiers and weapons. We even have a Feringi aboard, a Mr. Tog, who runs our primary Bar and Restaurant within my Promenade; now I know how Constable Odo felt, although I’m sure Tog can’t be as bad as Quarck is/was, but then again, one can hope.
As for now, ships security and tactical systems are running and operating at peak performance and hopefully will continue to do so. I must check on two remaining security areas though, that of Sickbay and Main Engineering, I can then give final sign offs for Captain Harsting.

Duty Log Stardate 64934.43 -
Chief of Security Lieutenant Commander Samuel Grant reporting;
Security has reported that the majority of the new crew have arrived and are aboard ship, the large amount of civilians are bringing up concerns but it is to be expected now that things have slightly calmed down across the quadrant.
Security reports only two incidents of record, a theft by a young civilian from one of the local shops within the Promenade and the Security duel at the local Galaxy Bar and Grill.
The being known as “Ann” has decided to return, for what reason I don’t know and am almost concerned to discover. Not knowing how she would act, a Yellow Alert was initialized along with an Intruder Alert. Security personnel responded quickly and were very efficient in their duties.
The most confusing thing though was that of ‘Ann’s’ behavior, which wasn’t like neither of two prior. Although our response could easily be misunderstood as being ‘heavy handed’, it was all we could do in the hopes of fighting Ann if it was needed. Her kind is very unknown to us in Starfleet and it is in itself frightening, she is very reminiscent of the “Q” entity that we received some training about; I just hope she isn’t as bad.
Although her actions were very uncharacteristic, it seems a much more positive side of her then the last two I’ve encountered. She appears much more open to reason and understanding, and if the would submissive could be applied, it would be. Although I feel that her motives are justified, I’m still weary as it is neigh impossible to read an alien species that you’re not familiar with, so we aboard the Terrasect will remain on alert just incase.
I’ve instructed all Security personnel to treat her as any member of the crew should be treated, and as she is the only kind of her species aboard, she’s been given some additional luxuries too; such as being allowed to carry come of her bladed weapons she so easily turned over.
Unfortunately, during this incident, a scuffle almost broke about between Lt. Grabfoot and Lt. Hound, both senior officers aboard the Terrasect over Ann. For some reason, they appear to feel that I used my status aboard the Terrasect to rob them of the opportunity of making romantic advances to her, both officers acting very uncharacteristically hostile; Lt. Hound to the point of boardering on the line of insubordination just a few hours ago. Neither officer appears to understand the entirety of the whole situation, which is sad, as this could affect their ability to serve efficiently aboard the Terrasect.
But with the uniqueness of the situation, I have chosen not to file a formal report of the incidents. The presence of Ann has made many crewmembers aboard act differently, and the rest of the officers and crew are becoming stir crazy while we wait out the last couple hours before departure.

The USS Terrasect has finally departed dock and is off on what could be refereed to as a ‘shake down’ cruise; with the exception that the test run is on an actual mission where we will be using our slip stream drive and heading off to the great unknown.
All of the ships crew have reported for duty and are at assigned stations, and I’m happy to report that we have had no security infractions or the like occur during our departure. This is an excellent thing as sometimes starbase personnel and starship personnel don’t always see eye to eye; this I know from personal experience. Even the 100’s of civilians we have aboard seem to be getting along… for now…
It is odd though, that we currently do not have an Executive Officer. We were waiting on, and expecting, Commander Ijoula who I served under before, but he did not board before we departed. I know I was acting as a ‘temporary’ XO until the Commander arrived, but surrendered that duty to Major Kinsely upon him coming aboard due to his rank. Although Operation’s Ranks and Command Rank’s are sometimes hard to comprehend, I didn’t mind as he has many more years of experience then I.
That being said, we’re off to assist in setting up a new colony on the far edges of the Klingon Empire, basically it’ll be our Midway Island to ‘hop off’ from in our continued exploration of the surrounding sectors. We’ve only been out of dock for a couple hours and our sensors, no thanks to the perfection of our Chief Engineer, is already picking up some unfortunate news. One of the planets in one of the systems we are passing by, is facing possible extinction of its populace because a rather large object is headed right towards it. The major concern is that this plant holds a few billion souls, a human like species; but I’ll leave the decision in the Captain’s hands, that’s what he’s for.
I’ve also received an additional new member to our security force, an Ensign Zabdiel. He’s working in a shift supervisors position and has received his marching orders; he’s young but then again technically so am I. Another left over gift we got from the Dominon War; having to get everyone into the field, rushing some through the academy.
I’m also happy to report that our guest Ann has taken on a… new approach to her being aboard the Terrasect. I’m not sure how long she’ll be around, but she’s definitely more tolerable to have this time around … *laughs* She has mentioned though a medical condition and/or concern that she is fighting, a form of addiction her people suffer from; much compared to the Jem’hidar’s addiction to ‘the white’, for lack of a better comparrision. When time permits, we will be meeting with the good doctor to see if there is anything we can do for her.
Regarding the incidents with Lt. Grabfoot and Lt. Hound, I’ve left both incidents out of official record and no charges are going to be filed. Regardless of what I think or have said, relations with both offices I feel will be strained; which is unfortunate. Having served with Lt. Grabfoot before, he’s an honorable officer and a hell of a fighter.
An additional report should follow our meeting with the Captain concerning our new mission.

There are times when I find myself thinking of being the Captain of my own Starship, wearing that Red Uniform and the 4 pips, sitting in the Center Chair… Then I find myself dealing with situations that remind me why I picked the gold uniform instead; my academy grades not withstanding.
We have received our new orders during our briefing about an hour ago. Not much is different then my previous entry with the exception that we will be stopping by the Planet that is looking at being destroyed; unfortunately it is not to offer assistance. It has been decided that assisting the planets populace would be a direct violation of the Prime Directive for multiple reasons; hence the difference between the gold and red uniforms.
There was discussion and several attempts to sway the Captain’s mind, but to no avail. The discussion got a little heated, but we stayed on track, for the most part. I found myself playing devils advocate, which I often do, but I must say I didn’t convince myself that we shouldn’t help them. I was going to speak with the Captain after the meeting, as this was not an issue to disagree with him in front of the other staff, but when I tried he appeared very distant. I’m assuming it was the decision that was bothering him, even his suggestion of capturing all the information possible so there would at least be a recorded memory of them, not completly relieving his conscience. I decided better to leave well enough alone and I could always catch up with him later, I left him in the Observation Lounge.
While we will be entering the solar system of the doomed planet, we are not expecting any serious problems and remain under normal security alert conditions. As a precaution, we’ve run a few security drills prior to entering the system to make sure ship security doesn’t become sloppy; we did well, even though I threw a few ‘critical unknowns’ into the drill we pulled about a 91% efficiency.
No other duty issues to report, security condition green.

Acting Captain Log’s Stardate 65364.48;
It is with great sadness that I must assume command of the USS Terrasect as a result of Captain James Harsting’s medical situation. As a result of a combination of both surgical stress and a ship wide accident, he has been confined to Sickbay under the orders of Doctor MacAuley and his condition remains stable yet of great concern. With him being down, command of the Terrasect has fallen to me; with mixed feelings all around. I should be commanding a warship or a tactical detail, not a Federation Exploration Vessel, I’m not trained for this… However, in accordance with orders from Starfleet Command the responsibility is mine.
Repairs are underway to the Terrasect and should be completed in less then a week, I’ve ordered The Terrasect to head towards SS Post 419 TG for supplies and repairs, in order to get our slipstream drive back online, which will greatly decrease the time needed to get home. We will also be addressing our guests, ‘The Drak’, that we have aboard in the hopes of determining their status and their wishes; this detail concerns me more then an altercation with The Borg.
In accordance with orders from Starfleet Command, I’ve ordered the Terrasect to return to the Sol System for extensive repairs and re-crewing. She’ll need 2-4 weeks in Space Dock for her repairs and crew debriefing, we’ll be able to perform a lot of the repairs to keep her space worthy on the way home; but Utopia Plantia will need to do the ‘big stuff’. I have also been informed that that I will be meeting with the head of Starfleet Security upon returning regarding an urgent matter pertaining to Federation Security; which I must say is disturbing at the least. Until then, my duty to the Terrasect still takes precedent.

Computer, Begin Acting Captain’s Log, Stardate 65399.66:
With the expertise of our own ‘miracle’ worker Major Kinsely, we’ve been able to increase speed to Warp 7; thus drastically reducing our time to the Starbase. With that bit of good news, I had begun to feel a little more comfortable knowing that we’d be home that much sooner and the Terrasect could receive her hefty repairs. Unfortunately, as space as a sense of humor, fate has decided the throw in yet another monkey wrench.
Upon dropping out of Warp, we’ve found the Starbase and her guarding Starships ‘dead in the water’ and a drift, with obvious battle damage; there are even signs of an orbital bombardment. This location was supposed to be classified, and both the Starships carried ‘science equipment’ that would make them not appear as combat vessels, even through they were.
There are no life signs, nor bodies for that matter, that we’ve been able to locate; which gives me a hint of hope that maybe, just maybe, we’ll find most of the personnel alive… somewhere…
Operations have picked up a residual warp trails, but currently are not able to identify what they are or where they went; which gives me an unsettling feeling that they may be cloaked. In addition, there is a single unknown ship that is also floating derelict near the Starbase. This ship, about the size of a Federation Runabout, doesn’t come back to any Starfleet Record on file, it could be one of the attackers; possibly a ‘fighter’ class ship.
While the Bridge Crew is currently bringing the Terrasect into closer orbit, to reduce the chances of us being detected, and are continuing to scan for hostiles and survivors. I’ve decided at this time, to stay with our ‘guest’ Ann as she appears to be going through the Drak’s form of child birth. Although I’d prefer to be on the Bridge trying to solve this current mystery, there isn’t much I can do other then pace and agitate the Bridge Crew, so I’ll stay in Sickbay.
Regardless, something is awry out there…
