Laren decided the only course of action to her was an appeal to the Executive Officer. She wasn't sure how this would go, but she had gotten her back up now and there was no stopping her. Besides, the worst that could happen was refusal and she would not have to worry about repercussions. She entered the bridge and saw two of her officers posted smartly at the entrance. This brought a small smile to her lips. At least something had gone right today. The XO looked otherwise occupied so Laren waited silently for acknowledgment.

Deka had been reading the latest reports. A new Chief Engineer and even more recently, a new Chief of Security. Lt. Tahlandi Laren, though she was referred to as Lt Tahlandi. There was only one reason for that Deka could think of. She frowned and turned, report in hand and there in person stood the Bajoran chief.
She schooled her expression. "Lieutenant?" She acknowledged and waited for the woman to answer.

"Commander Rekalan, Laren said trying to stable her wobbling voice. It was her first time dealing directly with her and Laren was just a little nervous. I have just finished talking with our new Engineer and putting a few restraints on his comings and goings. I've already filed a report which you should be receiving.

"Just finished reviewing it in fact, lieutenant. Very thorough. Was there something else you needed?" Having sent the report, there was no reason for the Chief to have reported in person as well, unless there was some point as yet unaddressed.

"Well, yes ma'am." She paused for a moment for wording. "I needed the Chief to do some work on security . You see, I think the ship would be better served if we had surveillance sensors in both Engineering and Sickbay. We have them on the bridge, but those areas have been neglected. Since Lieutenant Lang was able to walk on board so easily who's to say he didn't have a chance to smuggle anyone else and I'd like to be able to see more since my security force is not large, and has been cut down by the last attack."

As I did, ma'am. She returned. The Chief summarily refused me on the grounds that it was not a priority job. I hate having to involve you in this, but I had hoped you might intervene and talk some sense into him.

"You've made your point, lieutenant. I'll go over the engineering reports again. If it seems everything is well in hand, I'll order the placement however, I expect you to find a way to work with the engineer, not around him. Understood?"

Believe me ma'am, She admitted. This was my last option. I would much rather have things handled between the department heads. She gave an unprompted but she felt expected salute and turned on her heels toward the turbolift.

Deka was not at all surprised to see the message from Lang. Having told Tahlandi to learn to work with the engineer, she expected she'd have to have the same conversation with Lang. She typed out a return message.
"Your protest is noted, lieutenant. I have read all your reports and if they are accurate and with your current resources and personnel, you should have no difficulty accomplishing both projects; that is assuming you have represented yourself and your skills truthfully. I will look forward to your report upon completion."

Deka worked to suppress the sigh that threatened to expose the depth of her disbelief. First the CSec, the Lang and now the Doctor, all with complaints about how one or the other wouldn't "play nice".
She tapped her comm. "Technically Doctor, he's correct. This is only a temporary and voluntary assignment, and a physical isn't required. You might try to convince him that he should be checked for any communicable diseases however, I can't order him in for an exam unless his status becomes permanent or you have reason to suspect he's ill."

She shakes her, looks like they have no faith in the engineering crew she thinks as she taps her com again
"Dr. Reeba to Lt. Lang when you finish could you come to sickbay so I can check you for communicable diseases? I don't want to be in your at engineering sense you are Temporary"
