Shran grew up on the ice planet Andoria in the shadow of the greatest Andorian to have ever existed. Shran is the 8th generation direct ancestor of the great general, Thy'lek Shran. His parents hoped for him to be as great as his ancestor and in all their wisdom decided to name him after a man whose very name had become a household word on his planet, a man who had twelve statues erected to him in the capital city alone.
Growing up eyes were always on him. He was expected to be greater, better, faster, stronger then everyone else around him. But most of the time he could not live up to their inflated expectations, especially those of his parents, all four of them. More then being an outcast of heritage he was also an outcast of blood. His family was notorious for being associates of Aenar, the Andorian’s telepathic cousin-race. It wouldn’t have been so bad if it wasn’t true. Shran was always more insightful than his average Andorian peers, which made many of them nervous. He had a lonely childhood with not many friends.
Shran spent all of his time working toward one goal, Starfleet. He hoped it would be a place where he could finally prove his worth to all of Andoria and particularly his parents, but even upon entry he was found only mediocre at best. Strong for his short stature of 5’11” he had a natural aptitude for security work. This was another disappointment to his parents who hoped he would wear a red shirt and not a yellow one.
Worst of all two weeks before graduation from the academy his second father died, causing him to rush home and graduate late. Still a cadet he attended the funeral with shameful eyes upon him.
Preferring to be reserved he had a hard time opening up to others at his time at the academy. Still nervous and at sometimes awkward, he is however dedicated to the ideals and success of Starfleet. He finds humans refreshing compared to Andorians, they do not expect so much of him, and their nature is intriguing, especially the small telepathic glimpses he gleams accidentally every now and then of their thoughts.
After the destruction of his first ship USS London, Shran along with most of the crew of the London was reassigned to the USS Vanguard, but the heavy hearted Andorian never got over the loss of his first ship. Feeling responsible for the great loss he never quite adjusted to life on the new ship. After several months of service Shran took an extended leave from Starfleet.
Returning to Andoria he tried to reconnect with his family. His initial attempts were unsuccessful, having come home in shame was not a boon to his relationship with his parents. After several failures and two disappointing months Shran left Andoria more in despair than when he came home.
His next stop was the Daystrom Institute and his favorite sister, Noosha. Always the curious adventurous scientist she had been at Daystrom for over two years working on various projects. He stayed with her for over eight months studying science and engineering. Shran was motivated to return to Starfleet with an even better understanding of science and mathematics than when he left. If he had known a little more, had seen a little more, been more understanding of the universe around him, perhaps he could have saved the London from her demise.
Now after a 10 month extended leave Shran is returning to Starfleet. He has been assigned to the USS Aryes. Shran is excited at this new challenge and he hopes he can make up for his past mistakes and live up to the great name of his ancestor.
In a surprise move Shran was promoted to the Captain of the USS Aryes after its former captain retired. This was an unexpected honor and one which he plans to fulfill to the best of his abilities. He will hold his crew and his ship in the highest regard possible as he vows to uphold the values and goals of Starfleet and the Federation.
