Not Much is known about Sivaoans. I am here to try and change that. First off, I'd like to say that Sivaoans are a feline race. They are a nomadic race, that rely on nature as much as they can, unlike the Eeaiuoans. Eeaiuoans once lived on Sivao as Sivaoans but they had taken the path to learn technology. They built large cities and brought unknown and countless diseases and technologies to Sivao. When things calmed down, there were four different species of animals extinct and dozens of plant life. They were given a choice, to return to the traditional ways or leave camp. They chose to leave camp, and the camp was Sivao itself.
Sivaoans live in tents. The adolescents do not sleep in the tents with the adults and children, but in what is called a "swagger-lair" which is basically a sort of covered hammock slung between 2 trees about 30 feet up. Sivaoans have claws and can climb well. The swagger lairs, as well as tents and many other things, are made from "Usefuls", heavy, blanket-sized pieces of fabric.
Sivaoans have no word for marriage in their language. When a couple chooses to mate, they mate for life, even if they don't live in the same tent. Sivaoans can also cross-breed with other races, if they choose to do so
Children, and adults alike, are primarily disciplined by being cuffed across the side of the head. A Sivaoan saying is: "Head is harder than hand."
A child past puberty can choose, and cannot be denied, his or her Walk into Adulthood. A group, usually between 4 and 10 would go to the camp leader, announcing the intention to Walk and ask the name of another camp needing their number of adults. They would then be given their destination of a camp about five days away through deep woods . They are only allowed to take a knife and a useful, so that they may rest and take shelter in the trees. They were also allowed to make and take a spear if those so choose, and usually most everyone did "May you Walk in safety and arrive in Maturity" is said before they start out.
Sivao is a wilderness planet, so although there are often trails, there are many hazards, floods, land slides, "slashbacks" - a large predator, looks like Terran saber-tooth and grabfoots - small predatory animals that live underground and attack in force. If one in the group dies or is killed, the rest would remain children until the next time they decide to Walk again. If they all make it, they are considered adults, at which time they choose their own name. A Sivaoan very rarely makes a 3rd Walk and * "To find companions for a 4th Walk, it is not possible." Many who have not made it by their 3rd Walk, they choose an alternate path. There are very few exeptions. Some Sivaoan who have failed their second and/or their Third Walk, choose to live out their natural life, alone, as a child
* Quote is from the book Uhura's Song. Jinx To~Ennien was speaking to Spock about the possibility of failing her third Walk. Jinx later promised to Spock, with Lt Uhura's help, she would not take the other trail, but live out her natural life, with one exception. She would take her own life if she somehow caught a terminal or degenerative disease.
To A Sivaoan, "the other trail to adulthood" means they would commit suicide
You can usually tell how a sivaoan feels just by their body language, if you know how to tell the signs:
A Looped tail generally means that the sivaoan is smiling or is happy. the tighter the loop, the happier he/she is
A twitching tail and/or a twitching of the ears and whiskers, or a combination of the three generally means irritation or annoyance
A tail lashing back and forth or a tail lashing twice means that the sivaoan is upset/angry
Ears laid back, fur bristled, and tail lashing means they are really angry. It would be best if you left him or her alone or risk getting cuffed, also a tail thumping the floor would mean anger
Ears laid back can also mean a surprised look
One ear back means Disdain
When a Sivaoan, or Eeiauoan, puts his tail in his hands and "wrings" it, he or she is concerned or extremely worried
Quivering of the ears, whiskers, tail, body means that the quivering sivaoan is excited, the more quivering, the more exited the Sivaoan is. Quivering whiskers also means concentration or a thoughtful expression
Sivaoans also have a very strong senses of smell sight and hearing. They can tell how a person is feeling even if the person denies that is how they are feeling by certain changes in the person's smell due to certain chemical changes. Eeiaoans have Prehensile tails but choose not to use them. They consider it uncivilized.
Sivaoans are very strict in their customs, especially when it comes to names. You must call a Sivaoan by their FULL name or risk offending them, which could result in a cuff. You must get permission from said Sivaoan to call them by another name or a shorter version of the Sivaoan's name
I hope I have enlightened some of you on who Sivaoans are. I find that Sivaoans are fun to play once you can get used to how one would react to different situations. I am hoping that more people decide to play a Sivaoan character, or perhaps an Eeiauoan character.
To clear up any confusion or questions on creating a Sivaoan or Eeiauoan character, especially on deciding a name, Eeiauoans decided to name themselves "Of~Ennien" "Of~Vensre", Of~Sretalles" because at the time "Uhura's Song" was written, Eeiauoans felt they no longer could go to said places: Ennien, Vensre, etc. With that thought in mind, and to stick with tradition, my character Grabfoot Of~Two Dawns was created. Two Dawns being an Eeiauoan city. this was added to Grabfoot's name
