Zandile reads the PADD Rhian had left in sickbay for her as she walks to her quarters. When she finishes reading, she knows that she should at least say goodbye and wish him well. She ends up outside his quarters and rings the chime.

Thinking he put it off for too long, he gets up and starts packing. About that time, he heard the door chime sound, alerting him he has a visitor
"Enter!"

She hears him call "enter!" so she steps inside his quarters. He's packing and she watches him. "I know you have to go... I just wanted to say goodbye and I'm sorry for not having your back. If you hadn't rushed in behind me, you'd have never gotten hurt. And I probably owe you my life because of that... "
Her emotions were buried and unreadable as she said this. She wasn't sure if she even wanted to be alive. She would have gladly died in that battle if it would have kept him and her other crewmates from harm. She watched him. Packing with one arm looked difficult. She hated to see him packing and leaving because she had let him get hurt.
"Do you need help? It's the least I can do... "

When he seen Zandile walk in, he paused, a look of surprise crossing his facial features. After hearing her apologize for not having his back, he puts whatever he has in his hand down and walks over to her side
"Zandile, If anyone should apologize, it is I. I know you would have my back if you were able too, although I did have your back. If I had the chance to do it all over again, I would not hesitate to do it again. I would like to be truthful with you, Zandile. I was hoping I could win your heart but instead I got a one way passage back to Romulas. I know you are still mourning your husband and I wanted to assist you and hope that one day I could have been a husband to you as well"
Regret enters his voice and his eyes. He heard her offer to help him pack and was about to answer when his chronometer chimed on the wall. He looks over then looks back to Zandile
"I'd appreciate any help that you would offer but I can continue packing later. It is almost time for duty"

"My heart is gone... and if anything is left, you deserve better than that. You wouldn't want what's left. And I can't mourn one who I don't know is dead or alive. I am flattered by the offer, but your future lies on a different path. You will find happiness. I am sure many Romulan women would want a war hero for a husband."
She hears the chime and looks at the time. "Yeah, you're right... I have to go supervise the armory. We're cleaning up and repairing weapons after all the action we've seen." She moves toward the door, reluctant to go.

He thinks for a moment then realizes that h has a good 6 hrs befroe his duty shift would begin. He heard Zandile's words and saw her move toward the door. He frowns and attempts to appeal to her once more
"Who is to say that I would wish to date and mate with a romulan female? I maybe half romulan but i have followed my other half most of my life: Betazoid. As for my life's path, I like to think that I can choose where I wish to go and want to be with. As you say your heart is gone, I don't believe it. I feel you have buried your feelings deep down so you don't have to deal with them.. but of course, I could be in error"
He staands there, watching and waiting for her next response

She stares at a spot on the floor, realizing the alarm on his clock was off and she had time, too. "You deserve happiness, not my broken heart. Women on Romulus will admire your courage weather you are half Betazoid or not."
The fact that he was leaving was breaking her heart a little more. She was getting better at Vulcan emotion suppression every day and would learn to deal with this pain just as she had every other pain in her life.

He frowns and shakes his head, deciding to be blunt
"Zandile, I don't want a romulan woman. I want you!"
He turns, without waitng for her response and starts packing again

She was taken aback by this. She knew he was leaving and she knew she could not follow. She didn't understand why he was saying these things just as he was about to leave, and she wouldn't be able to pursue anything even though she kind of wanted to. The dam holding back her emotions burst and she started crying, not knowing what else to do or say.

He cringes and mentally kicks himself, hearing Zandile crying. he turns back toward her, an apologetic look on his face
"I'm sorry, Zandile, I did not mean to make you sad. I just wish there was a way I can stay and not be shipped back to Romulas"

She slides to the floor and wraps her arms around her knees as she draws her knees to her chest. She buries her face in her arms and cries, her shoulders shaking with her sobs. Every heartbreak she had in life took something else from her, leaving only the job her husband's departure had left open for her.
She wrestled in her mind, trying to regain control of her thoughts and her emotions and push them under again. After awhile, she looks up at him, a calm look on her face. "It's not your fault, Rhian... if it is anyone's fault, it is mine. I brought this upon myself, why else would bad things happen to me? I need to stay here, where I have my duty and responsibility. I wish you well on Romulus."

He pauses in packing yet again as she slid to the floor, he knelt down next to her as she sobbed, putting his one good arm around her to comfort her as best he can
"I dont think it is either of our faults, Zandile.. It is just the way life is treating us at the moment. I am sure things will get better.. for you anyways"

She appreciates his attempt to comfort her. "I don't deserve it." She stated simply. She stands up and wipes the tears from her once again emotionless eyes and starts to help him pack.

"You deserve it as much as the next person, Zandile. In my opinion, you deserve it more"
He helps her pack his stuff

She does anything that would require two hands, still feeling bad about everything. "I was a monster during that fight and I failed you. I lost everything but my job. Because I failed you, I lost my last chance to be happy. I don't deserve anything anymore." She folded clothes for him, because folding would be one of the harder one handed tasks.
