mission briefing, notes etc
The away team was beamed up considering the events they were lucky. There was always a risk taken when investigating a new planet. Shortly after they got there a storm started and continued for most of the time they were there.
The team encountered large cave spiders, a mammal something that was catlike. In the caves they found a book entitled Monsters of the Universe. Written in old earth English on paper of all things. It was in excellent condition considering how it was open to the elements.
On the mission security officer Ensign Thompson was injured. His ankle appeared to be sprained. But only the Doctor can say for sure what caused his injury and what it is.
One of the security team members started to complain of an itch. ___________________________________________

Ensign Steven Mitchel's post an NPC security officer
The doctor and Thompson were already in sickbay and he stood on the pad looking straight ahead. It was his first away mission and it was not what he expected or wanted. First the storm, Steven was always terrified of them. He learned how to hide his fear but when he walked into that web. Man, he had to bite the inside of his mouth, so he would not scream.
His left hand began to itch him and turned a light red. Great now I'll have to see the doctor. He just stood there and suddendly realised he was attracting attention to himself. Turning red he looked down and started to walk out of the room.

"For some reason I can't begin to imagine, someone wants us to have these books as they have gone through considerable trouble to insure we brought them back with us." She stood there dripping wet, covered with mud and with her uniform torn from the scramble through Tarkel's tunnel. There was only one thing to do. She started laughing.
Kiele wiped the tears from her eyes finally getting the laughter under control. "I suppose I should get cleaned up and report to the bridge. In my opinion, if everyone wants to take leave in a haunted house, this is the perfect place for it."

Transporter tech Ensign Miller coms the bridge "The away team has been recovered, their all covered in mud but we got them" he says in a calm voice
laughing Charlie looks at the General "The away team is on board, their covered in mud, I'd like to see that"
He taps his com "Away team welcome back " he says with a smile he looks back at the General "Getting reports of some minor injury's nothing serious"
Turning his station over, he heads to insure they are properly checked by Medical and decontaminated.

"Decontaminated?" Kiele grinned. "I'm a bit worse for wear but I didn't think I'd reached the toxic stage yet." She held the books out to Charlie. "I don't know why but someone thinks these are important and made sure they came back with us, despite everything. I suppose they should be decontaminated as well. Being as wet as they are, I haven't had the chance to look them over. I have to conclude though that we are expected to learn something from or about them. This one in particular. 'Monsters of Universal.' I wouldn't be surprised if it was a field guide after all the strange things we saw down there."

Charlie grins at Kiele "Not yet besides I hear mud is good for the completion" he then looked at the book she held out, "Yes they need decontaminated as well, the book 'Monsters of Universal' If I remember my old earth books that's a book of monsters from the Universal movie studios" he shakes his head "Be glad you didn't run into Dracula, he would have bit your neck" he looks at Kiele's neck then smiles "I'm glad your all back safe" he says as he walks to sickbay with them

The mud covered crew returned and for the most part they were all well. A few injuries and one serious. He was rushed to sickbay.
The book seemed out of place in that cave system so far any any humans. The type was in old style earth typing machines, before the advent of keyboards. They would discover that the letters q, p, j, and g, on the bottom was lighter in color.
There were notes handwritten, that because of time and exposure to the elements was smeared and smudged along side the margins. Then someone drew lines under sentences.
It was leather-bond and its binding looked as if it was from before 1900. It was sewn and the leather was beginning to crumple. Whoever owned this book at one time took very loving care of it to still be in the shape it was in.

They were on their way out when Kiele stopped. "What about the rest of the team?" She looked around. "The ensign in Sickbay who was bitten and had the injured ankle, I don't recall his name. I'm sure he's being looked after, but what about his partner? Ensign Mitchel, I think it was. He was here just a minute ago. He'll need to report in for decontamination as well. Charlie, we came in contact with quite a few indigenous life forms, none of which we knew anything about. It would be a good idea if all of us were thoroughly checked out."

He walked with Kiele and the away team when she asked about the rest "Those who were injured were sent strait to sickbay, I'm sure their going through decontamination as we speak as for Ensign Mitchel I passed him he was heading to sickbay"
Tapping his Com badge "Ensign Mitchel report to sickbay" he looks back at Kiele "Better safe than sorry" checking the book out "hand written notes but their smeared most likely do to the elements and their are lines under sentences. He tilted his head to the side here on the bottom of the page q, p, j, and g, are lighter in color. Its leather-bond and its binding I think is before 1900 well need to run test on it, to make sure"
Scratching his head "I like to read I reckon it stuck to me about books who knew" he laughs

"We need someone, in Sciences perhaps, who knows something of preservation. Both the books and the paper are very fragile. I'd hate to miss the intended message because one of us inadvertently broke off key words. I think we should get them into the hands of someone more experienced as soon as possible."
The mud have begun to dry and tighten uncomfortably, flaking off of both skin and uniform and leaving a trail from the decontamination chamber back into Sickbay. She brushed at it ineffectively then tapped her comm.
"1Lt Christienne to LtCol Shackleford, the away team has completed decontamination. When do you want us available for debriefing?"
She hoped he would give them the time to clean up and get changed first. For the first time she noticed there were small pieces of what looked like mica that reflected the light when they moved and on the places where the mud had flaked away, her skin felt smooth underneath.
"Lovely, a spooky spa. At least we've found the planet has some redeeming aspects!"

"I agree we need someone experienced I like looking at the books but I'm not the gentles person" he laughs
He walks with Kiele and noticed the mud flaking off her as she coms Andy laughing "You guys get clean, it was a free spa what you want Risa? I'll be on the bridge"

Decontamination ended and revealed nothing more serious then a few harmless spores. The samples were being analyzed and so far it was clear, nothing to be concerned about.
The Doctor began his autopsy the injury in itself was no where near serious enough to cause Thompson's death. And Mitchel's treatment for the itch was working. But he was still in sickbay pending doctors approval to leave.
The book seemed to have more pages then it should hold. Was more added and if it was, what could it be about? Who brought this book to a world so far from any human outpost, and why leave this one? So many questions.
As the team walked out of sickbay had a strange feeling of being watched. When one of them looked behind there was nothing there. And one of them was sure a whisper was heard.

She was sitting in the command chair waiting for the reports from sickbay. She anticipated the debriefing and the light it would shed. One of her crew died and from an injury that was so minor it made no sense at all.
"Keep us in orbit, full scans on that planet." Then speaking more to herself, what in the name of the gods and goddess could have caused a death. Why was a book found in old English?

He was walking with the away team "I wonder how the books got down their?" he could not help but feel like they were being watched
He quickly spun around and looked down the hall, standing their for a few seconds he then shuck his head then turned back around
