Asano rang the buzzer to the XO's Office. He then tood and patiently awaited a repsonse.
The XO would have things he'd want discussed, and it was time to do so.

Sloan watched the Ops officer for a few moments before admitting him. He liked how Nitobe controlled himself. He stood, acknowledged him briefly, and waited for him to speak.

Sloan watched him. It wasn't required that incoming officers report through the XO. If someone chose to do so, they were generally pursuing something more personal. He wasn't able to read anything specific in his eyes. Nitobe's control inside was just as perfect as it had been outside the door.
"Acknowledged, lieutenant commander. Is there anything else?"
Sloan gave Nitobe the opportunity to speak first to find out, without direction, what those pursuits might be.

He did not hesitate to answer.
"Not at this time, Sir, Except to inform you that I was not totally satisfied with the Operations Center as I have Found it. I have revamped their work schedule so that they will work more efficiently, and at the Pace I have set for them.
A full report on ship's Operational status will be on your desk by 0700."
"I have nothing further at this time."

All of which could have been sent in a daily report, Sloan thought. It might be that Nitobe just wanted to bring himself to Sloan's attention by presenting his report in person. Well, that had worked. Sloan would certainly be watching for the changes Nitobe has spoken about.
"Very well, commander. Dismissed."
