“You like that mate?” Thames said after the second kick. “I was a striker, on me fut-ball team.” He finished the second kick and went in for a third when Shackleford caught it. The punch in his solar plexus caused Ethan to drop down next to the young Major.

Andy was gasping. He slammed his elbow into Thames temple. “Soccer is for sissies.” He uttered between heaves.

“Sounds like a typical yank, “Ethan said firing back.
The blows went back and forth for several minutes, but fatigue became a factor and both men were having trouble lifting their arms to punch. Ethan knew that he had taken this rivalry too far, but stubbornness had kept him from admitting it. There had been a certain clarity about the Major that had been punched into him. The fact that he was just as stubborn as Ethan was, and this might go on all night if he didn’t make the first move. “Alright Major,” he put up his hand. “Enough, maybe I took things a bit far.”

“Maybe, I did too.” Andy said realizing that this may not have been the most diplomatic course of action. I’m the first to admit my lack of technical expertise, but the General had enough faith in the abilities I do have to give me the position over anyone else.”

“Trust me, I have no plans of repeating what happened here.” He rubbed his stomach and was still breathing hard. They both walked out of the room without another word.
