Originally, I from Modesto, California in the good ol' US of A" He chuckled a bit on that "but i hear Earth's been unified since I been back there"

I'm from a little town called Princeton, New Jersey in North America. he says in response to Greathouse.
He turns to the Ensign after hearing his answer. The good Ol' US of A? He thinks for a moment. The United States hasn't existed in over 300 years. What are you talking about?

He looks back to Collins with a raised brow and a genuinely surprised reaction
"Hasn't existed...? I mean the United States of America. All 50 states of them. It was still going strong the last I left. You mean someone came in and took the states over?"
He looked surprised and scared with the thought of that

He raised an eyebrow. The United States of America was a political organization, like the European Union or the African Confederation. Effectively when the Earth became unified in 2065 those smaller political organizations were absolved into the United Earth government. The physical territory which was once the United States still exists, but the political organization is long gone.
He pauses to put down his empty glass. And last time I checked a history book there were 52 states in the USA... Where did you go to primary school?

"Those smaller political organizations were absolved into the United Earth government. The physical territory which was once the United States still exists, but the political organization is long gone.
United... Earth.. Government..." He said it like it was a new concept for him to grasp "You mean to tell me all the world's governments all.. rolled into.. all unified into one? Whoa" he said in awe, trying to wrap his mind around the concept
His eyes then widened as he told him that there's 52 states now "52 states? You're kidding.. Who'd we add to the union?" He thought for a moment "Cuba and Puerto Rico?"
As for where I went to school, I went to Waterford Elementary and Oakdale High School . You've heard of those schools.. right?"

Sorry, ensign. There are thousands of primary schools all over North America. I haven't heard of those, but maybe you should complain. I don't think they taught you a lot about history. He laughs and gives the other officer a side-ways grin. I'm just fooling with you. History wasn't my best subject either.

You maybe foolin' me, Mr. Collins, but I'm not foolin' you. History was one of my better subjects. They taught me quite a bit of history, but what you describe to me isn't history" He glanced at Clyde a moment then back to Collins "What you described to me, especially what happened in 2065, where I came from, it hadn't happened yet and it won't happen for another 57 years"
He looked at Collins, awaiting his reaction. He was expecting him to be as disbelieving as he sounded a moment ago

Marshal absorbs what the other two have said. I've heard of temporal misplacement, and I learned about quantum paradoxes in the academy, but I've never met a real time-traveler before... But not kidding? Your from the early 21st Century.
He sits straighter in his chair and smiles. You didn't happen to bring anything with you? Did you? I'd love to get my hands on a real 21st Century video game... or a comic book. I love classic comics. I have them all saved in my personal database. I've read each hundreds of times.

He nods at that, confirming what Clyde just said "Yep, like he said, I'm from 2008. hell of a trip too. I was walking along minding my own business and I walk into a.. temporal anomaly, as people call it"
Collins sat up straighter in his chair, adding You didn't happen to bring anything with you? Did you? I'd love to get my hands on a real 21st Century video game... or a comic book. I love classic comics. I have them all saved in my personal database. I've read each hundreds of times.
This time he did smile and chuckle "As much as I would have loved to, i didn't bring any of my video games. it's not like I planned to jump to the 24th century. I did bring a couple book that I was carrying with me though but they're not comic books"

Oh well, maybe on the next trip you'll bring me back a souvenir, eh. He smiles. Don't you miss your family? Your home?... I guess if I was transfered some 400 years in the future I'd fight like hell to get back here.

Oh well, maybe on the next trip you'll bring me back a souvenir, eh? Collins smiled, Aidan frowned, his brow lifting again Don't you miss your family? Your home?... I guess if I was transferred some 400 years in the future I'd fight like hell to get back here.
"Next trip?" he asked, thinking Collins was nuts "Sorry, I'm afraid it was a one way trip. Yeah, I miss my family a little but I didn't have much of a family to begin with. When I left, I only had my mother. My home, I didn't have much there either
I think of here as home now, on this ship. I definitely don't want to go back. I like it here, I am happy. If you want to go back in my place, be my guest, but I'm staying here as long as I can" He nodded for emphasis

I'd love to visit, but that's not my home. He rubs off a smudge of the empty soda glass. Still, I can only imagine the kind of time you had in the academy. Astrophysics, Exobiology, Quantum Chemistry, and I would think even something as simple as Basic Warp Design would be almost completely foreign to you. You must had a lot of catching up to do.

He blinks, somewhat staring at Collins uncomprehendingly when he mentioned Quantum Chemistry, Astrophyshics, and the like "You could say that. You could say I'm getting a crash course" He chuckled slightly
