"I agree that there can be times when the variables become too many to calculate rapidly enough. And, it can seen that one is in a state of indicision. I have seen this before. As well as experiencing it. Too many variables, not enough information, and the probabilities of calculating the proper decision approach infinity that you will not calculate the proper desion.
"I have found that at such times, the best course of action is to calculate out all the variables, and take the answer containing the highest probability of being correct for a given situation.
"Much of all learning curves involves the calculations of risk and failure. I remember an anchient Earth saying, which I have found to approach to an infinite limit of truth. An inventor named Thomas Edison has been quoted as saying 'I did not fail, I just found many ways to do the job incorrectly.' In any given situation where the calculations of success are small, I have learned to live by that quote. And, many times have I found another way not to complete a task correctly.
"I just hope one day to learn how to complete all the tasks, and interactions I am presented with, properly."

Shran listens intently as the others converse for some minutes. His antennae nodding and rising with each different point. "What about instinct, or what I have often observed humans to call, one's gut feelings?
"Sometimes the most logical variable is not the correct one. There have been times where the choice of my intuition and the choice of my logic have conflicted, and I have found that in those times, my intuition was often the correct one. No amount of calculations or variable factors can account for that."

She looked at Shran as he spoke and nodded.
"I agree with you Shran. There is far too many variables to be calculated accurately. Aside from the "gut feeling". When I was in the camps many times I relied on decisions being based in spiritual reasoning."
"I think, most of the time its a complex blend of different variables."
She surprised herself the way she was putting herself right in the middle of the conversation. Maybe she was starting to make progress.

Looks at everyone "would gut feeling and spiritual reasoning as Inid said not be a variable" he asks "and I agree their are to many variables to calculated accurately on some things" he says with a smile

"Then I shall have to strive to process my choices and variables faster. I do not have what you call 'instinct' or 'spiritual reasoning' to guide me. All I have are precidents and calculated variables."
He looks at everyone present, each look a precicely timed movement, then he looks at the table. "I would desire to have my actions taken as 'normal' or 'rational', but I do not see how I could achieve this. Even after watching living beings for as long as I have, I cannot fathom the basis for more than one quarter of the actions they take. I can imitate them in a given situation, but I do not understand why they use them.
"This is the goal I have set myself. But, after listening to you three for the duration of this conversation, I begin to see the probability of achieving this goal as sigma approaching infinity for accomplishing it acceptably. Perhaps I should concider a new goal?"

Looks at Derral "So what do you do when you take a calculated variable and the percent equals 50%" he asks
he then smiles "normal' or rational actions is in the eye of the beholder example I don't drink alcohol there are a lot of people who thinks thats not normal or a rational action for a Marine, but their are thous who think its Normal or a Rational action for a Marine mind you their few in number" he says with a pause "and we do not understand why we use them either we just do"
He gets a serious look on his face "as for changing your Goals that you can do theirs no shame in emitting you made a mistake or you can't find the answer to something" looks at Derral "I think keeping your Goal as is you will learn more than taking an easer goal be cause this ones to hard for you"

"I am programmed to accept variations to calculations within the perameters of sigma approaching or equal to 50 percent. I have learned that if I filter the results to those approaching or equal to sigma limit 10, then I will have the best results for a desired result. Be it in combat, or in conversation.
"I have had to use the limit 50 before to tell classical jokes. Or to imitate human expressions when I calculate their necessity."
He looks at Clyde, his expression calculating.
"And, I constantly add variables to known equations, sometimes handling as many as 100 variables per calculated movement, when it is not a pre-set action. Such as running my station. "

"Imitation is something I can understand." He imitates a human smile to the group. "In my observation of humans I have often tried to adapt certain human mannerisms to better integrate myself with my crew and those I chose to call friends.
"Andorian mannerisms are found mostly in the movement of our antennae and I have often found that humans do not recognize the significance of even the simplest of their movements. So I too have adapted to live with humans. Perhaps, Ensign, you are not as unlike organic beings as you believe. In one form or another we all seek acceptance."

"That is part of what my designer do for me. Made sure I had a self learning, self adapting program, so that I could adapt the human mannerisms as I came to understand them.
"Though, I do still find it hard to understand, or to calculate the responce I have been presented with. It is not always possible to work an equation backwards to find the definition of a variable."
He attempts to mimic a friendly smile, but instead shows a leer.

"I apologize but I should be going." He picks up his empty cup. "I have many duties which I cannot neglect. It has been very nice having this interaction." He nods to each before giving his cup to the bartender. "Good bye"

Watching him go, and the strage female suddenly materialize, then dematerialize he nods a good imitation of a polite farewell. "I too have duties I should be about. And, a most," pauses to think for a moment, "challenging challenge to look into. I believe I should be attempting to solve this."
He too stood, and made his way out of the room, following Shran.

Enters the lounge walks to the replicator "6 eggs 1/2 pond of bacon crispy 6 pieces of toast, Milk and OJ and Ketchup" takes is food and sits at a table near the View port
Checking his PADD he sees a message from his brother David as he reads it he sees Beth's Father as given permission for her to marry David, Clyde Smiles as he finishes reading it
"Congrats Bro,
I hope were near Earth at that time So I may be at the wedding
Clyde"
Types a reply and sends it then puts his PADD up and starts eating as he eats he thinks about Yuna and how beautiful she looked at the wedding and just looks at his food while he thinks of her
