Quol hails from the planet Ferenginar where he was born to wealth. His father, Grimp, was a high investor in the Ferengi Gaming Commission. Even his mother, Adred, was a successful market investor thanks to the Reforms of 2375, which allowed women a chance to work. A progressive and influential family, it was not uncommon for Grimp to be called to advise Grand Nagus Rom in many matters. Quol’s older brother Olix followed in his father’s footsteps, but it was determined that Quol never had the lobes for business... not that he didn’t try.
After many unsuccessful attempts at investing, business opportunities, and even a very botched smuggling con, Quol finally gave up on business and concentrated on his first love, science. Often becoming consumed in projects for days and weeks Quol would forget everything else. Seeing his son’s true passion and his lousy business sense Adred gave the appropriate bribes to get her son accepted to the Academy of Sciences on Deneb V.
After three years on Deneb V, Quol helped make impressive strides in null space identification theories. After such a prestigious project the young scientis was finally accepted into the Regulus III Science Academy. There he furthered studied a variety of scientific fields. His most notable project while on Regulus III was an intensive study and dissection of Soong’s positronic brain work. Unfortunately Quol was dismissed from the Regulus III Science Academy for running illegal Dabo games in the academy’s basement.
After leaving Regulus III, Quol wandered around from place to place conducting his own research and pursuing his own intellectual interests, but in an ironic twist, the Ferengi usually found himself broke. Too ashamed to return home, Quol realized that the private sector was not for him. Starfleet seemed like the best alternative for a scientist, who half the time forgot to eat because he was so absorbed in his own work. When he tried to apply he quickly found out that because he was Ferengi he needed a Command level sponsor to get into Starfleet Academy. He used his friends within the scientific community, and his remaining latinum to come into contact with Captain Tara Felloway of the USS Copernicus.
Captain Felloway agreed to sponsor Quol only after a trial period on board her ship, which Quol happily accepted. He spent a year aboard the Copernicus as a civilian scientist assisting the Starfleet personnel in various cataloguing and even a few experiments and special projects. He made a lot of friends onboard the Copernicus and was sad to leave her after his trial year, but did so happily to attend the academy. While in San Francisco Quol found the Academy more challenging that he originally believed. He excelled at the academic work, but barely scraped by when it came to the physically demanding portions of his training. Matters weren’t helped by the fact that he was always a self-professed coward.
However, Quol graduated from Starfleet and was given his first posting on the USS Charleston, where he spent the better part of his tour in deep space cataloguing and charting gaseous anomalies. He found the work tedious and longed for the days of working on projects of more challenging interest, he did his work well, and soon found himself promoted and transferred to the USS Crazy Horse, where he advanced to the rank of Chief Engineer.
After the decomissioning of the Crazy Horse, Quol found a new interest in warp field mechanics and spacial light displacment. It was for this reason which he entered freely into Starfleet's officer exchange program. Eventually his patience paid off as he was granted a transfer to the the Romulan ship Dhivael where he hopes to expand his knowledge about Romulan technology and how it affects the space around it.
