We are already enroute to the new world. As for the numbers, I'm told four thousand between both ships which is above our mark but not far enough for my taste. I've been on enough of these mission and I'm sure you have too. He pauses for a moment and finally says. "Dirty business, just dirty business."

"We got above the mark, then we did good. Look, we knew before we started there was no way this side of heaven or hell we could save them all. So a realistic number is figured and anything above that is icing on the cake. 4000 saved, that gives them a real chance of starting over with a large enough gene pool."
"We ran out of time. That last storm front moving in is what killed it. We could have gotten some more but... What is that saying, the best laid plans of man and mice often go astray."

Of course you're right. He smiled. Maybe its the pilot in me. I defy death so I think I can beat the odds in everything. As a battalion leader you have to figure in 'acceptable losses'. I do too for that matter. I'm just happy you pulled through. He puts his hand on hers. I found myself not happy with the idea of you not being around.

Heading back to his tent, J.P gets a message from the Commo...
Sir...the word from the Tarawa is that they have over 4,000 saves.
Good news Chief....Thanks for the update.
Doc Rutger know 4000 is better nothing and they will have enough to starts their new life in their new world. But his heart goes out to those lost souls that were left behind to die with their dieing world. He stop and looks up and said a silent pray to himself for those souls.

She nodded to Major Aniri and took command of the bridge. She did not say much her thoughts were of the people left behind on that now dead world. She sat there quietly holding a coffee cup still shaking form the cold.

After what seem like hours of people fighting for food, blankets and medical attention and the occasional people wondering around were they were not supposed to be. Things finally settled down a bit long enough for her to report in to Major Kaine she tapped her combadge. " Saris to Kaine, Things have slowed down a bit. The fights have stopped and we got the people who were wondering around the ship. The only problem is missing family members spared around the ship. It's going to take some time to get people back with there family's." She stopped and waited for her reply.

She smiled. "Yes, acceptable losses and causalities. From the little I know of at the moment, we are well within that range. So if that remains, along with the numbers it will be one fantastic job."
When he placed his hand on hers the touch was pleasant, and she smiled at him. "I'm glad I made it myself, and I know Davey is too. I kinda like having you around too."

He smiled back. She had recovered well, but Marc could see the exhaustion in her eyes. Not physically but mentally and behind all of it a hint of sadness for those who were left behind. Marc had nentioned 'exceptable losses' they both knew for a Marine there was no such animal. There was what you controlled and what you couldn't. He stroked the back of her hand as he looked dowm at it for a moment. He brought his attention back to her. How much longer are they keeping you here?

After getting all the facts arranged she started to write her report on the incident. After a few minutes, she stopped and looked up. It was then she knew in her heart, command was not for her.
Their were others who wanted and sought command. Better it go to them. She sighed and got back to the report.

"I don't know how long, but I think I've been here long enough. I have work to do, a son to see, and a dinner to make for a man who made sure I stayed alive by getting me off that god forsaken ice box." She started to laugh and put hand on her chest.

I'll definitely take a homecooked meal. He smiles. I think you can rest easy it will be up to the fleeters to put this thing to bed. I'm going to check on things on the flight deck. I'll have them let me know when you are to be released. Right now you need to sleep San..Major.
