Laren walked into Main Engineering with resolve. All of that resolve was lost once she was inside. There were engineers moving about at a hurried pace. Lang was in the center of it all like a 'ringmaster' at a circus. It was like 'controlled chaos', and he seemed to love every moment of it. She had a vice grip on her PADD. She looked down at her list trying to refocus. She scratched the right side of her nose, a habit she had never grown out of from childhood. When she was nervous her forefinger went to the 'scratch spot' as her father said. He once tried to put rub 'stink root' on it, but she it only stopped her for a time so he finally gave up.
Her hair was relatively short, but there was one lock that fell in just the wrong spot and ticked her ear. She was constantly pushing it back. Even shen she cut it, the lock managed to grow first or faster. She pushed it behind her ear and walked toward whom she had come to see. The new Chief Engineer and also a walking problem for her. He turned with a pleasant enough smile. "Chief Lang, May I have a word with you?" Laren had a slight build and the Chief was not extraordinarily tall, but she was still slight compared to him.

Robert had been working in earnest. The Captain wanted those gel packs changed out for isolinear chips and it was a job that would take them a few more days. That among the other issue meant he'd have to be all over Trevious to get his job done. He was just about to leave when this Bajoran woman who seemed to be what he could best describe as fidgety stood before him asking for time he didn't have to give. He gave a few instructions then walked over. Is there something I can help you with?"

Though he immediately turned around she did not want to do this in front of his staff. Instead of asking him again, she moved to where she wished to talk and said something that would be barely audible to him. He did exactly what she expected and moved closer. "Sorry I had to interrupt you Lieutenant, but if I had not interrupted your business you would have done so to mine." She said louder now.

Now Robert was puzzled. It was obvious she wanted as much control of the situation as possible or she would not have isolated them both, but this declaration wasn't nice. What had he done to her? He hadn't even met her before this moment. "I'm puzzled." He finally spoke. "Have I done you some wrong inadvertently that would merit you treating me as if I were a criminal?"

You wouldn't be so puzzled if you asked yourself if there was any good reason for you to be here in the first place. She said as she looked over her list. "Lets see," She let her fingers glide down the PADD. "Since you've been here you breached our Main Engineering section and have had time to do 'who knows what to it", with just a cursery check of your service record. The Captain may have given you the job, but I'm not ready to give you the 'run' of this ship. "

Robert went from puzzlement to annoyance. This person still did not explain themselves. "Again, I'm talking to whom?" He said dismissed. Because I haven' the time nor the inclination to further indulge...whatever this is.""

"'Whatever this is'." She grabbed his arm as he turned around. "Is an inquiry from the Chief of Security." She smiled as he stop cold and turned around. "Lieutenant Junior Grade Tahlandi Laren, at your service Chief. Now that I have your attention, I cannot let you have full access to the ship till we have completed a full background check. These files only have your military record. I need your Personal background also. I have already requisitioned them from Starfleet, and if all goes well you should have full access in about 12 hours. In the mean time, I've already assigned one of my security officers to escort you around the ship. Is name is Erikson. He has an engineering background and will verify all the work you do. I would also request a copy of all of your work reports be sent to my office."

I understand 'Chief' Tahlandi. He said with as much sarcasm as he could muster. It would have made things much easier if you had identified yourself from the beginning. Your man can follow me, stare at me or count the amount of chips I can hold in one hand. I don't care. As long as you understand that Captain Delor wants his ship repaired in as short an order as possible. If I'm delayed, he's the one you'll answer to.

Oh I'm sorry, She said in an overly attentive voice. Did I come in here letting you know very little about me and start to dictate my agenda? Maybe I just wanted you to know how we may have felt when you came in here as our 'White knight' and 'Technical Wizard". I hope that you can now better understand my position. She pushed the lock of hair back again annoyingly then let her finger glide to the bottom of the PADD. Chief there is one more thing. I need you to drop whet you are currently doing. I need to have surveillance sensors set up in a few key areas of the ship lacking them.

Here's where we part ways Chief Tahlandi, He pointed at her. Its the Chief Engineer's job to prioritize repairs and modifications. It is my first duty to have this vessel battle ready. So your sensors are at the bottom of my list. Good luck getting them any time soon and good day. I'll give your man five minutes to get down here and after that I start doing my job and if you don't like it, throw me in the brig. Just make sure you file a report in triplicate when you do it. He stormed off.

Laren watched the Engineer storm off and smiled to herself. That went better than expected. She had expected him to protest the shadow. Accepting that condition actually gave Laren hope that he was who he said he was. She still needed those sensors, but going to Captain Delor was out. He had already been bothered enough and showed it. She did have another option so as she left Engineering, she was forming plans.

Robert saw the text message from Rekalan and pounded his first against the console. He hadn't meant for it be loud, but it was loud enough to turn a few nearby heads. He got to his feet and composed a return message
Commander Rekalan,
I will do as you ask and install the Lieutenant's sensors, but I wish to lodge a formal protest. From my conversation with the Captain, he seemed to feel the conversion was a priority. I will however not be doing the job personally since I have been restricted in my movement, and want to continue my supervision of the conversion listed in my last report. I will request that Lieutenant Tahlandi oversee the installation of her sensors in sickbay. I will see to them personally here in Engineering. They will be installed and tied into her console within the hour. Once finished I do request that I be allowed to finish the conversion which will be time consuming.
Thank you for your time Lang

{Reposted from the bridge}
Deka was not at all surprised to see the message from Lang. Having told Tahlandi to learn to work with the engineer, she expected she'd have to have the same conversation with Lang. She typed out a return message.
"Your protest is noted, lieutenant. I have read all your reports and if they are accurate and with your current resources and personnel, you should have no difficulty accomplishing both projects; that is assuming you have represented yourself and your skills truthfully. I will look forward to your report upon completion."

Robert read the reply and a slight smirk came over his face. He could see that the XO had a sense of humor. He had already begun the modifications. He had a feeling it might come to this, but after he had been inconvenienced he wasn't about to make it easy on the new security chief. He was still trying to figure out how he was going to get out of this. No one on this ship has realized he has an assignment and was on vacation. He 'commed' TahlandI, and she answered immediately. Apparently she was waiting outside the sickbay doors for his team. The woman had way too much energy, Robert thought to himself. He sent his team wondering how the Chief Medical Officer would handle "Hurricane Tahlandi'. The thought made him shudder as he sent his report to Rekalan then went back to work.
