=====================[OOC]===================== As you may or may not already be aware, Colonel Allen has taken a leave of absence for personal reasons. At the request of Fleet General Weslynes I have temporarily assumed command of the Tarawa.
The events listed below transpire eighteen hours after the final post in the previous SL thread. We'll pick up having already returned Lieutenant Savo to Vulcan. The Tarawa is currently en route to the Zyrine Asteroid Belt. =====================[OOC]=====================
“Computer, time?” “0727 hours.”
A career in Starfleet changes many things, but regardless of the situation there is one universal constant: Murphy’s Law. Laying awake in his bunk he reflected on the conversation that had woken him in the first place.
After learning the Colonel had been placed on dispatched duty he had been ordered to take command of the Tarawa. That was two hours ago. Unable to sleep he decided to start his bridge shift early.
By the time he made it to the bridge there were 5 progress reports waiting for him. After forwarding the reports to the ready room he made his way there and got a cup of coffee. After briefly skimming them over and making sure everything was in order he decided the time had come. “Major Aniri, please report to the ready room.”
After setting the reports aside he noticed something on the desk that was out of place. After a closer look it quickly became clear that it was the data disc left by Major Aniri.

OOC: Didn't know that but I hope he returns soon. Also, is this the new SL? I hate being one of the first to post somewhere new.. never know if I am posting in the right place or not.. lol
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Melvin just came onto the bridge to start his shift when the console had alerted him to an incomming message. After things had seddled down and Lt Savo was returned to Vulcan, he took an early night off and went straight to bed. Having slept 12 hrs straight, he felt somewhat refreshed. Now his attention turned to his beeping console and he tapped a key to play the message. Hearing it was a distress call, he immediately tapped a key to open a comm into the Colonel's office;
"Colonel MacDouggal, Long Range sensors are picking up a distress call from the USS Superior. She's requesting assistance"

She walked onto the bridge, not saying anything to anyone. She nodded to those who acknowledged her, at her station she began to check on the security teams. After seeing that they were in place, she looked at the daily roster and saw that everyone was at their stations. She noted that Colonel Allen was not present, he was sent for dispatched duty. She hoped he would return soon.
She heard her com badge chirp and tapped it. Hearing Lt Colonel MacDonell she listened then replied.
"Yes sir on my way."
She gave her station to the relief officer then walked to the ready room. Ringing the chimes she waited for his response.

She had made sure the hole in the hull had gotten sealed up, then gone straight to the nursery. The boys were scared from all the action, and it had taken the past 18 hours to get them to calm down enough to take them back to the nursery as she starts another duty shift. She had been hoping to get a day off after all that stress.
She checks in at the lab and sees that they are getting the ship's sensors back up and running back to standards. She releases the gamma shift lab manager and takes over.

Unable to sit still he rose from his chair and ordered a second cup of coffee. It wasn't the lack of sleep or the caffeine that was wearing on him, it was that battle going on inside him. Before either side could make any headway Ensign Moon informed him about the distress call.
"Acknowledged Ensign. Have Captain Dorius lay in an intercept course and engage at warp six. I'll be there shortly."
Although he'd played out the conversation with Jaylas several times in his head, he still wasn't ready for it. In a moment of clarity he realized that he hadn't actually reached a decision, and then he heard the chime.
After clearing his throat and taking in a shallow breath he managed regain his composure. He considered taking a seat once again, but decided against it. Standing tall, he directed his attention to the doorway. "Enter."

"Acknowledged Ensign. Have Captain Dorius lay in an intercept course and engage at warp six. I'll be there shortly.", he heard over the comm link from MacDouggal
"Yes, Sir" he would respond before closing the channel. He tapped in a series of keys on his console to get the location of the Superior and he sent the coordinates over to MCapt Dorius, along with MacDouggal's orders.
After that, he looked over to see if there were any other ships on long range sensors, especially in the vicinity of the Superior

While she waited, she considered what he wanted to speak with her about. After a minute she heard him call her in. She walked in, saluted and remained at attention.
"Sir, you wanted to speak to me."

“First and foremost, I want to apologize for my behavior earlier. I allowed personal feelings to cloud my judgment and I was out of line. While my words may not be able to convince you of my sincerity, in time I believe you’ll find my actions will back those words up.”
After a brief pause he resumed the conversation, getting right to the heart of the matter. “However, as you might have guessed there is another reason I’ve called you here. With the Colonel on dispatched duty I’ll be needing to select an executive officer for the duration of his absence. Not only do you have the most experience, but you’ve also shown you’re not afraid to speak your mind. Simply put, I want you to be my right hand, but I’ll understand if you’d prefer I choose someone else."

She received the orders to lay in an intercept course to the USS Superior, at warp 6. She checked for the best possible course to bring them there quickly.
After finding the best route she makes the slight adjustments to the course cutting off a full 20 mins. Not yet satisfied she continues to look.

She looked at him remaining at attention while he spoke. Her antenna's facing forward the curve was not as pronounced as usual. He was right, a lot had passed between them. Most of it wasn't good. But she was impressed with his level of honesty and willingness to accept that which belonged to him. Perhaps her opinion of him was formed to quickly, only time would tell.
"I accept your apology and the reason for it being necessary." He nodded and continued talking to her.
Her eyes caught the data disk she carried in not that long ago. Only wisdom born of intense training stopped her from throwing it on the desk, and it was that training that made her have the data disk made in the first place. She listened as he continued to speak.
After he finished she considered his words carefully. Indistinctly she wanted to say no. But then decided the most prudent course of action would be to accept. This was temporary until Allen returned. And the best way to make sure nothing would go wrong should they meet a warrior race, since he seemed to knew little of them, would be for her take the position.
"I will accept the offer."

At some point during Jaylas’ response it would occur to him that this was the first time he’d spoken sincerely in more than a year. Honesty was a luxury his clandestine background rarely afforded him, and for a moment he was able to enjoy the feeling.
As with all things, this newest luxury didn’t come without a price. As executive officer he couldn’t maintain a relationship with every woman he fancied as he had in the past. He was also fairly certain he’d never have another opportunity to entertain an Orion Slave girl. Although, after living with ten of them in a mansion for the better part of a year that particular fantasy was out of his system. But for the chance to live life with a single identity he’d gave it all up, and he’d gladly do it again.
Even so, the happiness that this freedom brought him met an abrupt end, leaving just as quickly as it came. Ever since his arrival he had tried to be the executive officer, but despite his best efforts he failed. Maybe Winter was right, maybe he was just being too hard on himself, but he had other things to worry about. As soon as the Major accepted her post as his XO his mind returned to the matter at hand. “Thank you Major. Unfortunately, I’m afraid the crew won’t have much time to adjust to these changes. A short while ago we received a distress call from the USS Superior, we’ll be within transporter range in less than an hour.”
As he completed his last sentence he made his way towards the door, before stepping out onto the bridge he turns back. “And Major, I believe there’s something on the Colonel’s desk that belongs to you.”
====================[ACTION]==================== The Tarawa enters transporter range of the Superior. The initial scan of the Superior shows that all systems are functioning properly but no life signs are detected on board. All the escape pods are still in place. ====================[ACTION]====================

As she stood in front of the Alpha shift security detail she tried to sound like her old self and inspire the group. But she could see in there faces as in hers they were defeated, they may have won the battle but yet lost. There was talk among small groups that Major Aniri cared more about the Aliens then her own troops. Vash put a stop to that before it got out of hand. She knew the Major was kind of distant from her troops but they would follow her any where. She had to find a way to bridge the gap with the Major and her troops. Once the meeting was over she headed for the bridge, once she got there she waited by the security station till the major got back.

She listened to him, it was one of the things she did well. As most Andorians, it was in the emotional realm the problem laid. Her antenna's while facing him still lacked the gentle curve. He then mentioned the distress call.
"I am aware of the distress call. Knowing Dorius as I do she has already plotted a faster course and still searches for another to further reduce time.
She was following him out of the ready room, when he turned and mentioned the disk on the Colonels desk."That data disk is the property of the commanding officer of the Tarawa. For now its yours. I have my own copy."
