Kyah hears snatches of what their new mission is, but she continues with a bit of old business until she recieves more specific instructions. She is assisting with a project that deals with improving sensor efficiency, knowing that the sensors will be very important to have soon.

She nodded and handed over the console to her and said. "Understood Ma'am." She hands her a PADD with the latest security reports. "One of our officers is sick Gordon has the flu, other than that its been quite. In the report is a recommendation to form a SWAT team for different types of situations. She waited for her response.

As soon as Cpl Kinsley asked the question who should start first he punched the Cpl in the chest. He was trying to show him to always be prepared.
However the EVA suit he did not account for and though his punch landed he found himself over extended and vulnerable to a punch to the ribs.

Thomas felt his punch to the chest, which made him go a a step back. He needed to remember that Klingons are always ready for anything. With his in mind, he was immediately in a fighting stance and would see that he had a chance.
Thomas would try to punch Kol'rah in the ribs and then would try to knock him down with a sweeping motion with his right leg to his feet. He knew that anything on one's self could be used in both defense and offense. What Thomas didn't realize is that his right side was slightly vunerable for any attack.

Feeling the punch to his ribs brought pain and a toothy smile inside his helmet. He saw the leg sweep and dodged it rollong toward the CPls exposed right side.He kicked him int the thigh as he was rolling.
He knew he was now vulnerable to attack since the Cpl had the height advantage as he regained his footing."Very good Cpl Kinsley I see your skills have improved."He steadied himself for the attack that was sure to come.

While some people might find this situation awkward, meeting your predecessor who was now going to be your subordinate Jim certainly didn’t. In the end it came down to one thing and one thing only, the chain of command. Any officer that couldn’t understand that didn’t belong in the service.
After settling into the vacant chair he tendered a nod to the Andorian, “Major,” and another one to his CO, “Colonel, a pleasure to meet you both.” A shake of the head was given to decline the beverage offer.
"It says you are a very well trained pilot." He nodded and continued confidently. “Yes sir, the best pilot in the Fleet. I’d be more than happy to show your guys how it’s done.”
“As you are aware the Tarawa is a Battle Cruiser/Carrier.We may need those skills some time.We do have excellent pilots aboard this ship I am sure you will meet them soon enough."
Listening intently as he was brought up to speed. “With your permission sir, I’d like to meet with the department heads individually before we rendezvous w/ the Vulcan Ambassador.”
"So this is the deal.I expect my XO to be my right hand man.I need your thoughts and opinions. But never do we have any type of argument in front of the crew period. Also I am usually very tied up so I need you to be my eyes and ears at times.I need you to sometimes let me know how the crew is doing and if anyone is having a problem. We work as a team and I highly emphasis the team concept on this ship."
"I am sure you will be one Hell of an XO and we can get our missions done with the pride and honor this Marine ship and its crew deserve. No do you have any questions, comments,or observations?"
“You’re a straightforward man Colonel, I respect that. Now let me be equally as direct with you. You're right, I will be one hell of an XO, you can count on that. As for your expectations, I consider everything you said to be part of my job description, and it will never be said that I’ve failed to perform my duties. I’ll take care of the crew, you take care of the ship, and together we’ll make the Tarawa even better than it already is."
"Teamwork is essential in all aspects of life and serving aboard a ship is no different. In my experience any weakness places undue limitations on the whole, and won't be tolerated. That being said, I have high expectations for everyone of my subordinates and those expectations will be met. I’ve read your reports and seen the mission logs, I know how highly you think of this crew. I'm not saying that praise is undeserved, however, I think you’ll agree that there is always room for improvement. It’s my job to find those opportunities and enhance this crew as a whole.”

Thomas landed on his right knee as he was struck on the thigh. He looked up at the Sgt and smirked. "I try to, Srg.", he would say to him. Without hesitation, he quickly gotten up and saw his chance to hit Kol'rah's floating ribs.
By using the side of his hand, Thomas would try to strike just at the right place. He would also at least try to hit under the armpits as well. All the while, trying his best to protect himself.

He listened as Jim laid it out for him as well.He was very forward frank and to the point.Thomas liked that in an XO.He offered him a cup of coffee as he listened.
"Well anything you have to teach the pilots I am sure they will be very receptive.I can not guarantee you can meet all the department heads before the Vulcan ship comes our way.You know how tight lipped the Vulcan's are and even in meeting us they only told us to continue on this course and speed and they would contact us."
He sipped his coffee and looked at hie new XO,"I am glad we agree on things and yes I understand we can and will always get better. One piece of advice before we get back to the Bridge.Watch how each individual reacts to you if you are giving them feedback. If they are receptive then go from there.I think you will find this crew very receptive."
"Well then lets get out there and back to work shall we ?And try and visit as many department heads as you can before the Vulcan's show up.Get a feel for the ship and her crew. You are getting a crash course I know but its the best we can do for now."He stood and motioned him toward the Bridge as they walked out.

"When it comes to the Vulcans the cloak and dagger games never end, but they're being unusually secretive even by their own standards. There's definitely more to this situation than meets the eye, I just wish I knew what it was. Since I looked over the sit-rep I've tried to get in touch with my contacts on Vulcan, but the only one that might be able to shed some light on the situation is on personal leave. In any case I hope that before this situation is over I'll be able to reach her."
Rising out of his chair as the Colonel gave one last piece of advice, "Well, it seems I have my work cut out for me. I look forward to working with you, sir... and thanks for the advice."
Upon leaving the ready room he went to the nearest vacant console and inquired as to the location of Major Iverson. After the computer informed him that she was in her office he headed towards the turbolift. Moments later he was standing outside her office pressing the door chime.

She was sitting in her temporary quarters on board the Vulcan Starship Tal'Kir reading the reports about Starbase 126 when she heard the Captain of the ship voice come over the comm. Lt. Savo we are 15 minutes from the Starfleet vessel. She tapped her com badge. "Understood" She downloaded some more information on to a PADD and headed for the transporter room, once there she waited for the signal to beam over.

A confident stride carried him into the room and a trace of a smile formed on his face. Making his way across the room and coming to a stop just across the desk from her. Before she had the opportunity to come to attention he interjected, "As you were Major. Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Colonel Jim MacDougall, and I'll be taking over as ship's XO. The Colonel filled me in on your assessment on current situation. Quite impressive."
With the formalities out of the way he sat down in the nearby chair and got down to business. "Because I'm coming in at the half way point of what could potentially be a very hostile situation I wanted to get a status report from each of the department heads. So tell me, what are you doing to prep the marines for the upcoming mission?"
After he posed the question he shifted in the chair until finding a more comfortable position. The designers of the runabout could learn a thing or two from the fighter ship designers about making a chair. He couldn't remember the last time he'd had a back ache. This whole process only took a couple of seconds, and once it was completed his eyes returned to the Major letting her know that she now had his full attention.

She watched him as he got comfortable and listened to him intently.
"Thank you for you kind words Sir. But I was simply doing my job which is to make sure this mission is a success. We are dealing with a variety of variables all of which is unknown. I can extrapolate and have."
"I've been a ground pounder and this is my first ship side assignment. I think like a pounder and notice details, which is what lead me to find the flicker, aka cloak."
"What I'm doing is preparing them for the unusual. Prime example, right now I have them training in EVA suits. Reason: we don't know what environ they are used to, which in all probability could be toxic to us. This might seem out of the ordinary, but thats where we are. And to be honest training in that is more rigorous."
"And thats the beginning. I will not be well liked for now but I am not here to win a contest, I am here to keep their arses safe. I hate acceptable losses."
